beating world record by 4 seconds in the last 100m alone is the most impressive thing I've ever seen in my entire life.
@verward3 жыл бұрын
Nah, the old WR was set opening for a 1500. So Kieran Perkins didn't accelerate the last 100, which Hackett and Thorpe did do. Nonetheless, very impressive.

Such a shame he retired early, watching Ian swim so gracefully is gorgeous to watch, and deceptive; he doesn't look as though he's going fast. There won't be anyone like him again.

Remember, Perkins has another 700 to swim when he set the mark. These guys could blast the final 150m knowing they would be finished at 800. Still - Hackett was one of the all-time greats in distance swimming, and Thorpe just blows him out of the pool. Similar to what Ian did at 15 years old at the '98 Worlds in the 400.

Thorpe saying he's got "a bit of aerobic fitness, but he's more of a sprinter" is almost as much a meme as Dressel saying he's "not a sprinter". My dude literally is still the 5th fastest performer with a mark he put up when he was 18 19 years ago while 2 of the people that were faster wore polyurethane suits.

I'm not sure it was "slowing him down". I think Thorpe claims it didn't do anything for him. I do wonder how fast he would've been with his 2001 fitness and an arena x-glide. Would he have been faster than Biederman?
