2001 Kia Sportage 2.0L Mazda FE3 Engine Cold Start

Mom's Kia hasn't been moved in about a week. So I decided to drive it around for a bit. Since it's 2WD (RWD), it's PLENTY of fun in parking lots and stuff like that.... well if you can get it to the parking lot! ;-) I believe this is the first, and only video of this kind on KZbin. When I tried searching for it, I found nothing.

19 years after purchase, and this thing is still running, on the road, plated and everything with almost 300,000 miles on it. What a trooper. Ha!

My friend's family has owned one of these since new and despite the numerous horror stories, it has survived up until now at about 190,000 miles without any major issues. I'm surprised but pretty proud. Not the best quality little SUV but for the price, if you get "a reliable one", you can't complain.

well I have a 2005, with 86000 miles and the only thing that I have to replace was the compressor, but i bought an used one for 50 dlls in ebay, and its ok now, but the interior is true, lol. the compressor got broke cause that day was 122 F here in california desert, I want to sell it now

I think it's a pretty cool little truck. I'd buy one. Interior rattles like no other, build quality sucks, so do the alternators but other than that, she's had no real issues with it. She's had it since it was brand new. I much prefer my Jeep though.

No turbo. Only Sportage that ever came with a Turbo was the Diesel, and I might even be wrong about that. The Kia is now gone anyway... finally.

@uakronsam116 by a "weak exhaust" u mean the velocity of the air isn't fast enough to blow the snow out? well in order to increase that velocity you'd need to either increase the volume of airflow by reving the motor (which he did but after the shot of the exhaust) or decrease the exhaust pipe diameter to make the current volume of airflow go faster. in either case, your goal would be increasing airspeed.. the fact that the snow didn't blow out is a good sign.. means the exhaust is sufficient

Need a new timing belt and new tensioner maybe spark plugs also if you havent changed them check your sensors and make sure their not bad 02 sensor is in the back and it can clog up the back cat converter if not taking care of

an '05 sportage is NOT an '01 sportage. '05s are FWD based AWD unibodies.. great for the wife to get the kids to school on a plowed road with 2" of snow still on it.. the 1st gen sportages such as this one is entirely different: RWD or real 4x4 (like a truck), Box frame (like a truck), Solid Rear Axle (truck). Kia built these with a MAZDA (not kia's design) FE3 bulletproof engine that kia dulled down just to make sure it would last longer and they do. check my vids for proof they take beatings!

Hey to disagree with you on "The build quality sucks" I`m a jeep guy myself and recently got to work on one of these. The tie rod ends, upper lower control arms, skid plates, axels, ect,ect,ect are made with a much higher grad steel/aluminum then I had ever expected. Even the frame of these little fuckers are 2 mils thicker then my jeep tj. I know it is a little embarrassing but its true. Check for yourself. Id buy one just to beef up for the woods.

That's not build quality. Build quality is defined as how well the vehicle is put together. Panel gaps, plastic flash, etc. Despite all this, the Kia is still in the family, still running with 202k on it.

I have the same car and I'm from Iraq but I have the problem of overheating because her the temp is about 55C

my harmonic balancer broke and crank also have to rebuild the motor

The Kia was given to my uncle a while back, he didn't replace the timing belt, engine had to be rebuilt. 200k+ now, still rolling... same block, rebuilt head.

Anyone know why the starter sounds so weird, it actually sounds like a chevy starter from a 60's V8, the one on my sportage sounds the same, at first I thought there was something wrong with it.

Who knows, man. All I do know is that it has never been replaced yet. Now um, other stuff, yeah. It doesn't have that much life left in it, rust is killing it these days.

i have a diesel kia sporage its a 2004 model we are having some problems with the heavy smoking we change the injector tips but the problem is stillthere could u give us advise as to solve the problem
