To access these additional features, you'll need to get their yearly license. ****** *Edit 1:* Up until about 8.5 minutes into the video, the bottom left corner reads 760 HP for the Z06, rather than the correct number, 670 HP. I eventually noticed I wrote this incorrectly, but not until halfway through filming. :) **FUN FACTS** Hard to make everything fit in one video! - Why turbo vs supercharged? This maintains the rev-happy nature of the engine, without bolting on a huge spinning mass (supercharger). Also has greater efficiency, and 1,000+ HP would require an enormous supercharger. - Why 1,064 HP? Why not some rounded, clean number? Corvette engineers state they're only goal was to make as much power as possible from this engine on pump gas. 1,064 was that number! No weird rounding, just aiming for pure performance and hoping to push it into four figures, which they exceeded nicely! - Top speed is over 215 mph (it has the power to do way more, so I expect this number is higher! - The car has 1200 lbs of downforce at top speed with the ZTK package aero - highest ever for a 'Vette! - It's RWD, did I mention that? Ha! - The exhaust alone produces 37 pounds of thrust! - The turbo wheels are made of MAR, and can see a steady state of 1,000ºC!! They see peaks up to 1,030ºC. That's hot. - As far as fueling strategy, port-injection only is used at idle & light loads. DI is blended in for mid & high loads (and of course very important at high loads). Using DI-only is rare (without port), but is used on cold-starts. - There are 15 heat exchangers on the vehicle to handle all the cooling needs. - It has a new J58 braking system, and 'Vette engineers say there is magic in the rotors, which have better heat rejection and better durability. - The standard ZR1 is a softer version (ride dynamics) of the Z06. When you go ZTK package, it's no compromise, and all about lap times. Stiffer, more downforce, track weapon!

That flat torque curve makes a car very predictable. Stomp the throttle anywhere in the powerband, you get the same response, you always know exactly what you're going to get. It's why cars like the E9x M3's were so easy to drive at the limit.
@sadlerbw96 ай бұрын
I was looking at that graph, and the first thing that came to mind was, "They have artificially limited the torque on this motor." I don't know if it is the engine internals, the gearbox, or something else, but this engine pretty clearly is limiting the torque output below what it is capable of so that it doesn't break something. This thing is approaching early WWII fighter engine levels of power.
@johnnygeorgopoulos40726 ай бұрын
When you see turbocharged torque graphs that look like a mesa, it means the manufacturer is limiting the engine in some way to produce that as it's unnatural...it means there's more left on the table with usually a simple ECU tune and usually a better fuel. They're probably limiting it due to them saying it'll run on 93 octane.... and knowing they're shoving 20lbs of boost at this V8, 93 is pretty shocking.... this thing, tuned on E85 is probably going to pick up 200hp and 200ft-lbs easy, just like the MB 4L Bi-turbo V8s do and the VAG 4L Bi-turbo V8s do

Its nice that you explain the area under the power curve throughout the different gear ratios. I started launching my 450 mx bike in third gear completely pinned, and I can eat just about anything. Youll be grabbing fourth as quickly as they grab second and i promise you itll make a massive difference in your results. I launch my 1380cc zx12 in second gear and you can watch me outrun an h2 that was running e85 a slick and aggressive supercharger gears on my insta. Also running 2.50 drive gears in my procharged big block 57 Corvette street car for similar purposes. Cnc heads solid roller cam 565ci with 25 lbs of boost at 7500rpm in a 2600 lb kit car. It makes 1800ish horsepower with nothing done to it that I didnt do at home. You do not need short gears if you have enough torque.

It took 8 generations, (71 years) but Corvette has finally made its first real SuperCar. To me they always nudged the edge of a Sports Car and SuperCar, but for the C8 ZR1, it's undeniably a SuperCar. When the C8 was first shown off back in 2020, I fell in love with the platform and design immediately. I have been chomping at the bit for the ZR1 to come out, and now it has. This thing is truly amazing for a US manufacturer to create. Thank full it doesn't look like a typical US manufactured SuperCar. It's not "big" for "big" sakes. It's not "over powered" for "over powered" sakes. Everything looks and sounds like it has a purpose. The design language looks right. It's uniform, no random drop offs. Amazing angles, and aggressive lines. Great job Corvette for joining the SuperCar world.

I own a C8 and the fine details are pretty good. The car has no deficits, plenty of power, car handles excellent, brakes excellent, comfortable on long trips, two trunks, gets 30 plus mpg Hwy mid 20’s on the street. Interior very well laid out. And it looks exotic. And it’s 1/3 the price of a Euro car. And that’s just the base Stingray.

Torque absolutely matters Jason! Take my truck for example, it only produces 550hp @ ~2000rpm, however, it also produces 1850lb/ft of torque (Cummins 15L ISX engine). Without that huge torque output, it would be suited to being a boat mooring. Here in Australia there are heavy spec trucks using this, and similar, engine hauling combinations grossing over 200 metric tons.

One thing to point out when using torque to measure feel is the rate of applied torque, which is HP. The pull you feel from 300 ftlb at 2,000 rpm is less than the same torque at 3,000 rpm because the engine is providing a higher rate of pulses of the same force. I hope that made sense. I discovered that when I asked myself why a vehicle with lower max torque pulled harder than on with more. The answer was horsepower 🙂
