I have a question. How come the beginning of the third millennium and 21st century was celebrated on January 1, 2000, instead of January 1, 2001? The 21st century and third millennium actually begun on January 1, 2001, instead of January 1, 2000. It's a common misconception that people have about the 21st century and third millennium. There's was no year zero in the Gregorian Calendar. Here's an example. Years 1 to 1000 = first millennium and 10th century Years 1001 to 2000 = second millennium and 20th century Years 2001 to 3000 = third millennium and 30th century

David Cole that is not true. 2001 was worse Even though nearly 3000 people died on 9/11 and nearly 9000 people died from Coronavirus in the United States. I understand that 2996 people died on 9/11 and that 8998 died from Covid-19 in the United States alone. I in addition know the 2996 all died on one day, the 8998 died from the timeline of February 13, 2020-June 16, 2020. April 17, 2020 was number of Coronavirus deaths per day increased the most. Nearly 2350 people (2346 people to be exact) died from Coronavirus on April 17, 2020 alone. The total number of Coronavirus deaths in the entire USA went from 3122 to 5468 on April 17, 2020. Now do you understand why 2001 was worse than 2020.

That right there was the real beginning of the new millennium. Since there was no “year 0” in the calendar anno dominni, The 3rd millennium started January 1, 2001 and will continue all the way through December 31, 3000. But obviously the celebrations into 2000 we celebrated as the transition into the new century as well as the transition into the millennium. And generations far in the future will probably celebrate the same thing when they witness the coming of the year 3000.
