After we discovered the rear drain plug, we decided not to pull the lines off of the transmission cooler like some folks recommend. Sure, we didn't get all 5 quarts of transmission fluid out, but we did get about 4.5, which is still very good. As to torque settings, I hand tightened the plugs. The Toyota torque specs are great for a new vehicle being built in the factory, but we have found it the plug has been removed a few times, then it becomes easy to strip at the recommended settings. Hence the reason I use medium strength Loctite and then tighten until "snug".

You only showed how to drain the fluid , that's great for people who only want to know how to do half the job.

you fill by using a funnel in the atf dipstick + replace what you took out, stumped me for a while too.

Hi i have the same camry v6 with the 1mz-fe engine except mine is a 2003 is it safe to drain from the rear plug? (do they share the same oil fill hole) because i see some people saying in the comments dont drain the rear one. should i leave it alone or safe to drain?

This is helpful. Just to make sure there is no fill hole for differential fluid correct?
@redonKiLaus6 жыл бұрын
On these there isn't, since the differential and transmission share the same fluid reservoir (assuming a V6 model, not sure about I4). Just make sure to add back in the same amount of fluid taken out. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

I have 2001 Toyota Solara V6 engine. I see the same tranny setup like your V6 Camry. I replaced the tranny fluids and diff oil this morning and put back the same amount that came off. Didn't fill differential separately. I have been reading I4 has a separate fill plug. Thank You for the great info.

1:43 There's a reason the crush washers are one time use only and leak if you use them again. Always use a new crush washer. The ft pounds for this job don't need to be exact in my experience. Glues like Locktite are overkill in my opinion.
@Toastyy9112 жыл бұрын
reused aluminum crush washers for years without leaks.

Bruh you don't need loctite that's why there's a replaceable washer....

what transmission oil for yaris 1.3 E 2014 ؟
@redonKiLaus7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, I am not well-versed in newer Toyota cars. If you look at the sticker on the door sill of the car, the engine and transmission model should be listed, and you can look up the transmission model to find out what oil it needs. Thank you for watching!

Most transmissions have a strainer that doesn't usually get replaced. When the pan gasket leaks then you can remove it and wash it/backflush it with a parts washer. My '97 Camry 2.2L LE has a strainer but my 2000 Jeep TJ uses a filter. Just have to do your research to keep it right.

I just bought a 2001 toyota Camry with 178k Miles. Tranny fluid is black on the dip stick not sure if I should just leave it alone now to change it. Some people complain about them slipping with the new fluid.
@redonKiLaus Жыл бұрын
I'd be apprehensive about changing it, but that said, if you don't, the transmission is toast eventually, and if you do, it might be toast sooner, or might go on longer. Thanks for watching!

Uh, duh! You did not show HOW to refill the transmission! You put the pan plug back in, and immediately cut to a scene with a gallon jug of ATF. Not helpful. I was trying to learn whether the Toyota has a separate fill plug on top of the transmission case, like Acura does. Your video fails to answer this very basic, and very important question. I guess I'll look elsewhere. Excellent video quality.

DO NOT remove the fluid from that second bolt that he’s talking about. It DOES NOT REFILL from the front of the transmission. It will destroy your transmission!!!! The first drain plug is correct and refill it from the top where your dipstick is. Again, DON’T touch that second back bolt/plug. This guy needs to edit this video because peddling this uneducated misinformation is beyond wrong. Good luck DIY-ers.
@redonKiLaus4 жыл бұрын
This is true with regard to the transmissions coupled to the I4 engines in Camrys of this generation, but for V6 cars this is the correct procedure.
@johnsmith-qe2fd2 жыл бұрын
Its only ok for ES300 trans, otherwise you have to fill the diff.
@robertm.6285 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that is what I thought because the second part there is actually the differential, which the fluid is separate from the transmission. There should be a fill plug higher up on the body of the differential and it does use transmission fluid, but separate from the transmission itself.

We bought our 2001 Camry new. It currently has 390,000 miles on it. I drain both from 2 bottom plugs and fill at dipstick tube. The differential and transaxle share same reservoir. 1MZFE engine.

@3:02, ATF looks like oil change with 30-40K miles. You need a flush and not a change !! They way it looks , you need to remove the pan, change the filter, then flush !!

Guru H Or you just do 4 drain and fills at home, driving 50 to 100 miles between drains. I only get 2.5 quarts to drain out at a time.

Please perform sufficient research yourself before you misinform people. The A541E transmission used in this car does NOT have a separate fill port for the differential (the second plug I drained). I cannot speak for the transmission used in the I4 Camry, but this video is a tutorial for the 1MZ V6 Camry, and in the case of this vehicle the transmission and differential share fluid, and while they have separate drain ports, fluid is only filled through the dipstick tube.
@LAactor5 жыл бұрын
@@redonKiLaus A similar car, the Lexus ES300 a camry clone, has the 1MZ-FE V6. Did the Camry only come with the A541E tranny? Is this diff and tranny reservoir the same for all the model years of this vintage? 98-01. I'm reading some don't share and you'd need to fill with .89qt via a fill hole above the drain on the side of the diff.
@Greenisthebestcolor5 жыл бұрын
Not all are the same. The 4 cylinder differential is separate and must be filled via the differential fill plug.
@haxorbarrr3 жыл бұрын
lol, 4 cyl and v6 Camrys dont have a differential.. They are front wheel drive.
