2001 VW Jetta GLS vr6 12v misfiring cylinders

As mentioned already it is very likely the coilpack. The VR6 motor was notorious for this type of issue. It is an easy fix as you can simply remove the coil pack and put some JB Weld brand 2 part epoxy over the entire surface of the coilpack. The root cause is a small hairline crack in the pack that arcs and creates the missfire. You likely will find that it runs worse when it is a humid/wet day. Once you epoxy the entire coilpack surface you can reinstall the pack and it should work as good as new. This is just one remedy a replacement coil pack can be expensive as they usually run (at least here in louisiana) around $180 bucks. I am literally in the process of doing the same fix on mine. Though mine has not been a daily driver for the last several years, it will be again very shortly. I hope you can get it all worked out.

If you referring to that high pitch grinding noise, its the starter shaft not retracting fast enough after the engine started. New starter.

coil pack is first to go, check wires, check plugs, my issue was injectors they are so brittle and break easy, open loop on 3 of 6 of mine replaced all and boom problem solved

MORE THAN LIKELY COILPACK. SAME EXACT PROBLEM. MISFIRE ON 1 AND 6 (front ports on coilpack)

coil packs for sure mine was doing the same thing .first and ijector then the spark plug wire i change all of them till i just order the coil pack tha was it problem fix.

What was wrong!! I'm having same issue, replaced coil pack wires and plugs, still same issue, replaced timing chains and guides, still same issue, mechanically the motor is sound, I can't figure it out.

have the same car with the same issue. my 3rd cylinder misfire code p1215 p303 and p333 and i just put new plugs in and that did not fix it! what could be the most caused problem for this before i take it to a shop and they rape me. I am ok with cars but this is my first foreign car! Thanks

Tawnya Mitchell It ended up being for me a clogged Fuel Injector, I had to replace 4/6 of them. The car was sitting for a while when i bought it! hope this helps!

thejumpingtoad my car was sitting before I bought it and it sounds like that. I have open circuit codes on all injectors P1237 - P1242. I also have a P0305 cyl 5 misfire codes but I think P1242 is causing P0305 to show up so I hope I don't need to replace all my injectors
