I was at this race. There was lightning all over the place during driver introductions. It actually was an awesome experience, the lightning and thunder to go with the pre-race atmosphere. It started raining during the pace laps, nothing major, but enough to wet the track enough to see a glossy sheen on it. I heard the "1 to go" call over Dale Jr's radio, and I remember thinking "This is gonna be fun!!!!!"

The only reason I can recall them not using the 3-D graphic cars anymore was the fact that FOX only showed the sponsors of teams that had payed the network to use them. It was pretty much sponsorship bias, it created a huge controversy so they stopped using it after the 01 season I believe

As we all know, NASCAR is under decline in the last years. Less income means less people to work with. Less people to work with means less stuff and graphics to work for. No money, no people (and not enough work time), no graphic enhancements.

Probably NASCAR's most boneheaded move ever, the reason, it's allowing them to try to run the race in the rain. At least they allowed the drivers involved to use the backup cars after the 1st lap crash.
@rubatowolf11706 жыл бұрын
Stephen Holloway that was also a problem though. Those back up cars were not inspected, so the pit crews tricked them out. Junior was very vocal and pissed about that. Haha oh well.
@stephenholloway68935 жыл бұрын
True but since it was NASCAR'S fault for throwing the Green flag in the rain, what else could they do, DNF the cars that did wreck? Yes it was unfair that the cars were not inspected but, again NASCAR goofed and at least it gave the drivers that did crash another chance.

When I first heard NASCAR was allowing teams to use backup cars I thought they were just making up dumb rules as they went along. Now I know there is an old and obscure rule that if a race is red flagged before the first lap is complete, the race is aborted and restarted from the original grid.
@PYLrulz19843 жыл бұрын
Plus it was NASCAR’s dumb decision that led to that. They at least owed the teams the chance to bring out their backup cars.

@AngryGundamGamer The change has been night and day, Sprint Cup is so different from the Winston Cup series. Yes its is a change in sponsor but the whole landscape has changed. Winston and RJR were nice sponsors, Nextel and Sprint just run the series like a company. Winston treated the drivers like family and thats why they enjoy it. Nextel was a great company, it was based in my home state of VA. When Sprint purchased the company stuff changed.
