Even though I am South Korean, I get tears while watching this performance. I feel angry when I think about the pain that New Yorkers and their families had felt during the 9/11 attacks. The great thing about the American people is that they are able to subdue pain into courage to win real victory. The 2001 World Series was a series of legends that were even more meaningful in that respect. God bless America!!

The B-2 would have just been coming into view for the people on the infield side of the stadium, so they started to clap. Bear in mind this was 2001, that plane was still shrouded in mystery, and this was the very first time it had flown over a sporting event. Sure they do it all the time now, but not back then. It was a sight to behold back then.

Gum chewing while playing the trumpet or cornet is quite common among professionals. It helps to keep the mouth (and therefore the lips) wet and slick. You can’t blowthe trumpet with dry mouth or lips.

I’m a trumpeter. I’ve been playing for 6 years. I’ve never successfully played anything higher than a high G in a song and not messed the song up. This guy played a high high high G at least. Truly amazing.

He played a double G. That's not out of the normal range for professional trumpet players. Many (Maynard Ferguson, Lynn Nicholson, Arturo Sandoval, Chad Shoopman, and others) hit higher notes, like double C or above.

Got to see Jesse playing the national anthem multiple times out at PIR throughout the 90s. Incredible emotion every time, glad this video is here to save an even more monumental time for the US and Phoenicians. That world series was an epic battle and then weeks later to see U2 and witness Randy walk the trophy out on stage….🤯🎉

I was at a bar in Chandler that night for the game. I’ve saved this performance and shared it at every opportunity. I’m not a musician or athlete. I’m not even African American or whatever the preferred term is today. I’m just a man with cancer now who still can feel the chills and tears just like 22 years ago . My three boys were toddlers then, but they feel it now as well. Not sure there’s a higher compliment.

I live just south of the dbacks stadium, when we where watching it on tv and all of a sudden saw the stealth bomber flying over the stadium, we all ran out to the back yard. That plane made a right turn to head back to Luke AFB right over the neighborhood, still puts a knot in my throat after almost 20 years.

Here it is, 2024, and I had never seen this performance. I also played the trumpet and I can't even call myself a trumpet player after hearing this. I thought that I was good until 10 minutes ago. I started a little band whilst in the United States NAVY and I found connections in Oahu(My ship's home was Pearl Harbor)and was GIVEN, AT NO CHARGE, all of the sheet music that we needed before deployment of 6 months. All I can say is that we had fun. But, to hear a performance of this song, not even 2 months after 9/11, PLAYED BY A LEGEND, WITHOUT MISSING A SINGLE NOTE, was an AMAZING EXPERIENCE FOR ME AND ALL OF YOU AS WELL. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND YOUR FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 🇺🇸 🙏🏻🙏🏻
