Canada is still a free and peaceful country, Russia is not. The vaccines worked, that's all i care about. Racism will never die. Smart phones have done more good than harm. After writing this, none of these were Obamas fault, a few are from SCOTUS, China and Russia, and the main culprit misinformation and QAnon. Politics aside, none of this was Obamas fault lol

@@OBrien-hi9zq The sixties saw assassinations, civil rights struggles, riots, a 'depraved' sexual revolution, an explosion of drug use, and a war that killed ten times the number of Americans than all the wars since. The seventies continued to fuel our decline with Watergate, the Iranian hostage crisis, the rise of terrorism, Japan's rise to economic dominance, and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. We were impotent, a paper tiger so I heard, a shadow of our former selves. Except we weren't. The predictions were wrong then, and I think they might be just as wrong now. Dr. King is one of those speakers who can effortlessly bring you to tears, and just never disappoints.
@gutturalbanshee723 жыл бұрын
I think preaching in a church and talking to the people he spoke to helped him with that. He wasn’t a politician speaking blindly to a crowd, he was speaking to people. Just like when he preached, he was just talking to people who had thoughts, needs, and dreams. Even as a teenager who never lived through the civil rights movement, mostly likes to stay out of politics, and disagrees with Kings entire religion, I can’t help but respect the man. A man who fought for what his people needed and didn’t hurt others in the process is one who deserves respect and recognition throughout the ages.

Al Gore is certainly not my favorite politician of all time, but man, his concession speech was remarkable by today's standards. He intentionally, conscientiously refused to make the Supreme Court decision a political rallying point even though he had a perfect opportunity to do so. The peaceful transfer of power and the institutional integrity of the Supreme Court mattered more to him than his own election. That takes humility.

Fun fact: MLK didn't prepare his I Have a Dream speech beforehand. One of the women standing a bit behind him shouted out to him "Tell them the dream, Martin!" He had told her his dream a bit before the speech, and was not prepared for his speech to be about that subject. Knowing that gives me a lot more respect for Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. He could take a single sentence from someone and turn it into one of the most if not the most inspiring speeches to ever grace the land of America.
