You removed the factory clips all wrong. You simply push the center pin down while still in the car. Then the fastener will just pop right out.

Won't that leave, or possibly leave, the center piece down in the abyss of the car somewhere?

@@TwoKeysStudio Nope. They won't fall through. Once you have the fasteners out, simply push the pins back up through the center. Then reinstall them.
