Actually refill 4 times to flush. I don't know where the 3 times came from but it's incorrectly stated all over the internet. The 05 CR-V owners manual actuals says for automatic transmissions "To thoroughly flush the transmission, the technician should drain and refill it with Honda ATF-Z1 (now using the upgraded Honda ATF-DW1), then drive the vehicle for a short distance. Do this three times. Then drain and refill the transmission a final time." Thanks for making this video, people truly appreciate it even though they don't all give you credit.

Great vid! If I may add one thing..if your engine bay is dirty, sandy, etc. (which many are) you may want to clean up/off the general area as well as the black wire loom above the dip stick before removing the dip stick. See 43 second mark.. This will keep any debris from falling into the trans. as you maneuver your hand, dip stick, and the funnel into place.. Again, good job explaining!

Hello everyone, I’ve hit my first delima! My daughter has a 2005 Honda CRV EX AWD that I am trying to complete a drain and fill on her transmission, and did a drain and almost exactly 3.3 quarts came out (I did measure so confident on amount). Dumped in exactly 3.3 quarts of DW1 back into the transmission. These numbers seem to be what I should have expected from my research on the make/model/year. started car and ran the trans thru all the gears to distribute fluid and let it warm to operating temperature. turned the car OFF and pulled the dipstick, wiped and checked the level…the fluid is not even touching the bottom of the dipstick :(. I will add that this car has zero leaks of any kind….it’s been a great car and has no shifting issues at this time. Here’s the funny thing….I can go out after it sits all night and check it cold and it is exactly even with the top of the XXXX marks on the dipstick. So everybody I talk to is saying car must be at operating temperature then shut car off and check level on level ground within 60 seconds and no more than 90 seconds, and when I do this the dipstick is completely dry but shows perfect after sitting all night and cold. Sooooo, do I need to add until full when it’s warm (which would be putting in much more than the recommended 3.3 quarts) or are late models different and need to be checked cold? It seems if I add more fluid when warm, that the level would be way over max when cold. I know Hondas are picky on fluid levels and don’t want to hurt her car. Thanks in advance for any help you can give to explain what I’m doing wrong!
@ToFightTheGoodFight Жыл бұрын
I know it's a while now. I'm like you. Doing exactly what you did. Like anything else. If it was driving well before the change? What ever you collected from the drain? If the new clean oil capacity goes in? It should be right ( maybe 50ml extra would not hurt) I had to learn to stop second guessing myself. .. enough of ocd🤣🤣
@BenjaminHansen Жыл бұрын
I'm late to the game here but... You should drive it around making sure it shifts through all the gears, even reverse, until the car is up to operating temp. Driving ensures the temp gets up there. Then shut it off and check w/in 60 seconds. Add 1/8 to 1/4 qt at a time and repeat process until full. If you added too much, you could pull some out the dipstick hole using a vacuum pump if you did not want to open the drain plug. Also, I like to check 3 dipstick readings, even looking at the backside to ensure the level is read correctly.

Nice video ,what I also found out is that you can get much more oil out if you take one of the transmission cooler line that run to the radiator and pull one out or both and I used some compressor air and in one of the lines and the air pushed out lots and lots of transmission oil out like 3+qrt.and you can also blow out the cooler lines also in the radiator just be gentle on the air don't just blast... slow with a little pressure ...
@Andrealas2 жыл бұрын
Honda in owners manual does not recommend pressure fluid change because it could damage transmission. Do the drain and fill operation 3-4 times in a week or two with some driving if your transmission oil was not changed over 100k miles or so. After 3 times you should get around 90% new fluid in transmission.
@one7decimal2eight Жыл бұрын
No one do this. Ever. The trans is like 7 quarts. A drain and fill is 3.25. You remove over 40% doing it how Honda recommends. Drain and fill. Drive it for a few hundred miles and do it again if it is nasty. If not, just do at the suggested intervals.
@angelisone3 жыл бұрын

@vxnova14 жыл бұрын
So 3.25 quarts is just less than. Half the oil, if you change it one it’s roughly 50/50. Old to new oil. If you change it again it would be 25 to 75 old to new. And again would leave it 12 to 88 old to new oil, I think that’s why they recommend replacing it 3 times

Well i just ordered the fluid and in line filter but my trans started making a whining sound on cold start and started slipping then not engaging at all after driving it for a while, I think the filter leading to the transmission cooler is clogged(never been changed), causing it to overheat. It's got just over 160k, is an AWD CRV so I guess has more strain on the transmission. I bought it used so there is no telling what the service records are. Hopefully changing the fluid and inline filter leading to the trans cooler will fix the problem. But it could also be a faulty solenoid🤷♂️. I just hope it's not a complete failure and don't have to rebuild my transmission but that's being almost overly optimistic even though the fluid was just barely getting old (brownish red/time to change).

Are you sure you are looking in the right place? It has a dipstick, or did.

@@JackofAllMasterofNone thanks for your reply. It is the right place. So the dipstick is gone. My daughter and I used a flat bit of grass straw to check it. My auto transmission is stuck in neutral and drive. That's why I was researching it. My car went thru much mud and water in the recent floods. It might be too far gone. Cheers.

Came across your chanel. So I've bought 2005 crv question. To check automatic transmission fluid the vehicle should turned off? Thank in advance 😊 Merry Christmas and Blessing New year!
@JackofAllMasterofNone2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Warm it up to normal operating temp and then turn it off and check the level

Has anyone used the Valvoline atf in their honda transmissions and how did it work?
@JackofAllMasterofNoneАй бұрын
I've heard it works but I only recommend DW1 OEM. It's just as cheap as Valvoline if you order it ahead of time online.

Shouldn't the vehicle be level while draining out the fluid?
@JackofAllMasterofNone2 жыл бұрын
That is ideal yes. But with the front wheel off of the ground slightly like I had it the fluid runs out since the plug is at the rear of the pan.

what size ratchet do i need to remove the drain plug?
@neilhochstedler75743 ай бұрын
Mine is a square drive, internal. A 3/8" ratchet works well.
