2002-2006 Honda CRV turn AC off manually when in defrost setting

Never knew it was possible to turn off AC when in defrost modes! I've owned several Hondas, but this CRV only one with the factory default setting where you cannot turn AC off when in defrost modes. I now know this works for the Honda Civic 2006-2011 and Honda Elements, but I suspect it will work with other Hondas and Acuras

I'm a Boomer... I would never be able to coordinate all that button pushing,, and gotta admire how you figured that out and filmed a Y.T. What I did with my '05 M.T. CR-V was delete entire ac and put a shorter belt on... I hate ac , and live in dry climate and my Hinda is White- I got it made...

Wish I would have known about this before my wife drove around for a year in the defrost setting and eventually burned up the compressor. Kept telling her that the ac was running constantly but she never got it. Literally the day I got her a new car and took the crv on as my daily… the ac compressor locked up.

But I can always turn AC on and off when defrosting. I have 2006 E. AC was never locked in any settings.

i think the newer models, the light will turn off, but the AC compressor still running so you may want to check again

@David Kim I see. Interesting. I know the temperature is definitely not as cold when AC light is off. How do I check if AC compressor is on? Sorry, not a handy person. Thanks.

@@ytytyt808 usually if you roll your window down there is a slight difference in noise if AC on. or the idle is slightly different. try in a non-defrost setting and turning AC on or off to see if you can hear a difference compared to when in the defrost setting
