That poor S2K. One of my favorite cars ever. That body work breaks my heart.
@the_frankc2 жыл бұрын
As a previous owner of an AP1 S2000, that thing is hurt. - The front fenders are boogered because of how tall of a tire he has on it and the wheels being the wrong offset - Those are cheap wheels that are definitely not a fit for an S2000, hence the huge rear spacer to make them fit - S2000 guys are HUGE about replacing their Time Chain Tensioners (or TCTs) and a guy called Billman on the S2K Forums is the main person they purchase them from, he makes a specialty TCT that S2000 guys SWEAR by. A new TCT also helps to quite down the motor noises - Early AP1 S2000s are also know to crack intake valve spring retainers with a mechanical overrev, so sometimes those noises can make owner paranoid and change those later AP2 retainers as they were less prone to cracking - Pre-2005 S2000s can remove their Catalytic Converter and not throw a check engine light - Even with that car having it's butchered fenders, tacked on rear flares, high mileage, terrible fitting wheels and tires, it's definitely still worth 10k
@southpark67572 жыл бұрын
My 2001 S2k steering did the exact same thing. There is a fix online. It's where the torque sensor is. Disconnect the steering and that part from the rack, take it apart. All it needed was to be cleaned and regreased. Going over a year now and still works perfect.

Whoever did the shoddy body work ruined it. The S2000 on Wheeler Dealers also needed a new steering rack as the old one was corroded.

Agreed. If I had that car I'd clean it up and find nice stock parts to restore it. If the owner throws more junky discount "modz" on that thing and cuts it up it'll soon be worth as much as a used Camry... the next owner will pick it up to use it as a track car, or has to source thousands in rare stock parts.

Doesn't the S2000 have underbody panels? Edd on WD mentioned it as well. I think the water and crap from roads get into the rack's motor and corrodes it. This S2000 has holes under the front bumper for the panels but obviously it's been scrapped and got ripped off and never been put back.

It makes me wince to see a rare broken part like that steering rack being consigned to a scrap heap. On popular, valuable cars like the S2000, sooner or later rebuild/remanufacturing businesses will appear when the supply of new and working parts dries up. What was once worthless then becomes something with considerable residual value.

Try a bottle of lubegard biotech engine oil protectant to get rid of some, if not most of the engine ticks. I was a transmission mechanic for over 10 years, and i have seen lubegard work miracles. With transmission shifting problems...when the only other fix would have been a valvebody pull, or a complete rebuild...sometimes it could be fixed with a service, and a bottle of lubegard. As for engines...EVERY LS engine that i have used lubegard biotech in, has lost its famous LS tick...or most of it. If you have a engine tick, just TRY the 15oz bottle with a oil change, ONE TIME. Then drive it around the block, and i dam near guarantee, the engine tick will be quieter.

There’s a “secret compartment” in the S2000 interior as well. If you pop open the center storage bin, where the trunk release button is located, there’s obviously some storage space located right in here. But if you reach up under the lid located above that space, you’ll find that it opens as well.

As an owner and admirer of many cars that are nearly as old as I am (think mid-80s) and/or are from foreign markets (mostly Japan), I am well used to parts being NLA. Sometimes you can find internet people who can rebuild things like wonky steering racks or leaky air suspension systems but other things, especially glass, rubber, and consumables such as brake lines or pads, can be tricky. Toyota briefly reproduced some gen 3 Supra parts recently (mine needs all new weather seals and its 7MGTE rebuilt) so hopefully that trend continues with other makes and models.

The s2000 is not the only Honda climbing in value. Pretty much all their cars from the mid 1980s through the mid 2000s are seeing increased values. Especially the 90s Civics and Integras. There are a lot of reasons behind this, from their reliability and costs to maintain, their racing aspect, being modern but relatively simple and the overall new car shortage. It boggles my mind how many people don't service their K&N air filters. Its incredibly easy to do yourself. You spray cleaner, wash it, let it dry, and apply the oil.

I hate them simply because of this. No one services them because they are sold on the “million mile filter” garbage. Then get upset when they damage the MAF or engine from sucking in fine sand because they havent been serviced in 75,000 miles.

This is a perfect candidate for Hooptie's Garage. He could even paint the wheels and cam cover gold.

Mrs. Wizard must sprint to the interior each time. Sounds like she just finished a marathon when she begins to speak on the interiors.

Honda engines are very good reliable engines but they get noisy especially when older. Valve adjustments help and there are TSB on some models. Have zero experience with this particular engine so have no idea if it applies here. Won't quiet the noise completely but will help.

My 2005 CRV keeps its clatter after valve adjustment and general servicing. I've got used to it.
