Just found your channel. Awesome video and just what I needed. I have a 2005 MV7 that needs new front bearings. I'm debating whether or not to take the hubs to my local machine shop to have them pressed out and the new ones back in but at least your video gave me a good idea of what I'm facing. Thanks.

Good video would help some people get most of it done on the cheap if you couldn't afford new parts. But you shouldn't reuse old bearings, and no hard grease should be used at all in this type of HUB on Polaris it's not needed and will do more harm then good. I bought one of a guy and it pulled to the right as well because the guy packed the bearings with wheel bearing grease. I replaced all the bearings with new ones and new races, which wasn't show in this video and assembled it with NO Grease. and add ATF to the half full mark once you're done putting it back together. Also replace your seals. Now it works flawlessly.

I normally dont use grease. The cheap aftermarket bearings were a little stiff. I didnt like them, but that's what the customer wanted. It was only a light layer. But you are correct. No grease. I've had one with the hub packed with grease. I made a video on it. I use synthetic ATF in my hubs. I have reused good condition bearings before with no issues. I guess I should change the video so people dont get the wrong idea. Thanks for pointing that out.

@@TitaniummanGarage Glad you took that the correct way, didn't mean it as insult. Just wanted people to know incase they were following this as an instructional video. I totally get it customers can make things more difficult sometimes wanting a cheep bearing installed and so on with other parts. I learned a while ago going cheap just meant you were likely to spend the same in the end and do the job twice. some are still finding that out. I did enjoy the video. This would be a great video for a temporary fix for many reasons.

Hi TG, have you ever done a video on front end alignment? I have an 01 Sportsman 500 HO, I had to change the tie rod ends and some other work. I aligned the front end with strings and thought that I had it perfect, and it seemed great in the mud, but when I opened up on a tar and chip road, it got unstable. It feels like it wants to follow any road grooves, dance around some and even shake/wobble at higher speeds. I almost always ride offroad, so I only recently noticed something is wrong when on hard roads. Thanks for all your helpful videos!

I use a 8 foot 2x4 to line things up. A couple other factors on the wobble could be tires, tie rods, the plastic bushing up by the handlebar neck could all be warn. You replaced the tie rods. So that rules that out. Also the lower ball joints could be warn out. Its hard to get it correct. I sometimes toe mine in a little on each side. depending how it rides. One side could be out father than the other too.

It doesn't work in reverse but it does in forward? Could be the override button. Or the switch on the transmission is bad. I have a video on that as well.

I have a 2001 magnum that the left front wheel will not engage. I am taking it apart to figure out why but how do you fill the front hubs with fluid? There are no caps or screws or anything like that on the front hubs so where does the fluid go in to fill the hubs?

My Mom's 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500 started doing something similar intermittently but on the left side. It would pull to the left, then make a clunk sound as it stops pulling.

you think the base diameter of a 2000+ 500 front strut is the same as a mid 90s 500? I see aftermarket strut assemblies for 2000-2004 are going for a lot cheaper than the 96-99 ones and visually they look the same.

I have a Polaris Xplorer 1997 and I don’t have that inner permanent magnet ring… Is it normal? Also 4x4 doesn’t work on that wheel

Thats the magnetic coil. It drives the front wheels when the 4x4 button is pressed.

Did this issue cause a wobbling too? My old Xplorer 500 pulls XTRA Hard to the right when you go from 4WD to 2WD. Turn it off, Start It Up & It doesn't. It wobbles all the time though. New Wheels -Same Issue. I've got 8 better quads (Yamahas) but I love the ol battle-ax 500.

Could be your bearings or a warped rotor. Or the axleshaft got bent. Did you ever roll it over?

Try going in reverse after turning 4c4 off. It helps disengage the front hubs. Sometimes they stick in AWD after the switch is off.

I used to know. LOL. I don't torque them to spec anymore. When I did the wheel wouldn't turn. It was too tight. Now I go by feel. I snug it up till no play and give it another half turn. never had an issue.

I've had that happen quite a bit. I do a couple things. heat them up, get a needle nose vice grip on it. Or cut it off with a sawzall and replace it. 2 screws hold the plate on to release the ball joint. If its spinning its bad any you should probably replace it anyway. Hope that helps.

My early Ranger 6x6, (has the same hub assembly above) seems to stick in front wheel drive after I disengage the switch causing it to pull hard to the left. (Left hub). All bearings are OK and hub is full of lubricant. Any suggestions. The hub will release after a little while, but hard to drive while it is hung up. What do you think?

Could be bad bearings. I've seen that issue. Put it in reverse for a few feet. It should disengage. The hillard clutch stays stuck open after the magnetic coil is turned off. Something is sticking inside.

I use old gas for lots of things. cleaning oily engines, soaking parts, cleaning oil spills on the garage floor, weed killer. HAHA.

So... I don't believe you explained why the axle shaft caused it to pull hard to the right. You narrated what you were doing but there was no explanation as to the correlation and causation. I've replaced everything but the shaft and since the axle shaft's function is pretty straightforward (it turns) so why and how was it the cause of the wheel dragging that caused it to need to be replaced. I'd like to know before I spend the money on a new shaft?

The u joint were shot in axleshaft and the bearings. Causing drag on the right side.

@@TitaniummanGarage Mine does it on the right side as well (forward and backward but backward mostly - might be just a coincidence) however if I reverse directions it seems to release itself and then the wheel rolls just fine for a while. Then it starts all over again after sitting for several minutes to an hour. Do you still believe it is most likely the CV axle/u-joints? (Hopefully not front tranny.) I sincerely appreciate your experience and thank you in advance.

@@k.bronson7343 No. No. The hubs sometimes stick in awd. When you go in reverse it will release it. Also..I should have mentioned this in the video. If your brake disk/ hub is warped it will cause drag on the caliper pulling it to the right. I had about 3 or 4 of those happen.

​@@k.bronson7343 Little tip : do not assume it's OK. I've had the same problem as you and "fixed" it the same way until the last ride where it jammed permanent in AWD. I was several miles from home just pulling and pushing on the steering and something started to break on there... I don't know how far I will have togo to fix it now😢
