I think if you try to put yourself in the shoes of how the world was viewed at that time, I think people became obsessed with a lot of things because of things that were published, today we just have a broader medium to spread misinformation, but at the time I think the lack of having access to what we do now led to people forming much stronger opinions based off the images that the media would decide to paint

Everything is somewhat scripted in his life. We all have scripts with the responsibilities we have to stay afloat. He has to be even more regimented with constant projects and demands to keep the billion dollar program running. He isn't always truthful, but few are, and especially given his position. He hasn't been lucky in love. Apparently, people run after a while.
