Just another quick video showing how to replace the front Brake pads and Rotors on a 2002 Toyota Camry.
Torque Specs for Caliper Bracket Bolts: 79 ft lbs
Torque Specs for Caliper Slide pin Bolts: 25 ft lbs.
Bolts used for pulling off the old rotor:
M8 x 1.25 (But you can also whack the rotor near the hub with a big hammer)
Brake Lubricant used:
Sil-Glyde
It is always a good idea to step on the brake pedal once or twice before driving away. This will push the caliper pistons back out pressing the pads against the rotor. Also, make sure to top off the brake fluid if necessary.
Thanks for watching!

Do you need to compress nee brake pads after putting back on?

Wow, you made it look so easy. I had my daughters tires replaced and they said I needed new brakes on the front. Yep, they want $230.00 to replace them. He said they are at 30%, I can get the front pads for $15 to $20 bucks at our local parts store and replace them myself in maybe an hour or 2. Save her some money. Thanks for the video.

I noticed you didn’t clean the hub before installing the new rotor. Not doing so can cause brake vibrations. Just FYI.

Look like pads were only about half gone. They are 12 mm new and wear limit is 1 mm. Clean up hub with a wire brush and burnish in a small amount of anti-seize on the hub or inside of rotor interface. Never need to use jack bolt to remove disc again. Regards

My thoughts exactly on the anti-seize compound. Great stuff!

Do you put the screwdriver between the brake pad and rotor or on the outside of the pad? You just hear "put it in there" without saying where there is. Also, if you're not replacing the rotor, wouldn't this technique damage the rotor?

It's a good idea to put some blue loc-tite on the threads of the caliper bracket bolts. They can (and do) come loose.

Great job man, I was wondering are you suppose to open brake fluid cap when prying the caliper ? 🤔
@DantheFixitMan
@DantheFixitMan 6 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. It is a good idea to take a look at the brake fluid level so you don't spill any if it had been topped off recently. Usually, when the pads are worn down, the fluid level drops as the pistons are pushed out of the caliper to take the place of the worn pad material, as was the case on this vehicle. The Cap of the Master Cylinder reservoir isn't completely air tight, so if the fluid level is low, the air in the reservoir can easily escape while the pistons are pressed back in. But, it is a good idea to have the cap off in case the fluid level does come up too high while pushing the pistons back in. You can remove some of the excess brake fluid if necessary with a turkey baster or a few paper towels rolled up will soak it up as well. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

Hi,an observation,the new rotor doesn’t have two holes to put the screw so as to easily remove it when it goes bad.

If any disbreak box is discontinued the dealer doesn’t even have it and you can get it at a huge junkyard can you get one off of another vehicle a different year

new rotors doesn't have holes to loosen from hub
@DantheFixitMan
@DantheFixitMan 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct. Some of the replacement rotors don't have them. In that case, if the rotor is stuck and there are no threaded holes, I just give it a good whack with a small hammer and that usually does the trick. If that won't work, I also have a large 3 jaw puller that can get them off if they're stubborn. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

What exactly are you wedging against? Between the two brake pads?
@DantheFixitMan
@DantheFixitMan 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking, I am wedging between one of the brake pads and the rotor itself. Sometimes you can get the screwdriver started by prying against the rotor and the backing plate of the brake pad first. This should give you enough room to fit the screwdriver's blade between the brake pad material and the rotor. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

Dan the Fix it Man Doesn't that scratch the rotor if you're not changing it?
@DantheFixitMan
@DantheFixitMan 7 жыл бұрын
Good point, it actually looks like on this video I was able to pry between the outside edge of the backing plate of the outboard brake pad and the inside edge of the caliper body, so it wouldn't have scratched the rotor at all. On other vehicles, I have pryed between the pad material and the rotor for many years without ever noticing a scratch on the rotor. Even if it did cause a scratch, it would be small enough to not cause any problems. Thanks again, Take care, -Dan the Fix it Man
