2002 Yamaha FZS100 Fazer

The second of my own personal road bikes my immaculate 2002 model Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer. I bought this machine in 2016 and it it fully original with only 18,000 miles on the clock.

Thanks Chris, i had a black 2000 model and the only mods i did was a huger, 15 wt fork oil as when pushed hard i found it tended to dive a little under hard braking, also i replaced the brake lines with braided ones but as you say a fantastic all rounder.

I have my Fazer since 2019, and still totally in love! She never let me down, allways a good companion,.... Right now she has 58k km on the clock! And this blue,...! 💙

Yeah had mine for quite some years now and it’s as good as it was brand new but your right it’s hard to find any faults with these bikes just keep that exup valve serviced regularly and the bike will go on forever.

I love mine as well, carb bowls polish right up if you get the chance, there just aren't a lot of parts to shine up on bikes like this but as soon as I put the jet kit in I noticed that the carb bowls polished to a mirror in a matter of seconds, I'm going to make a video to bring awareness I guess lol

Nice clean looking bike! I own a 2005 fz1 grey with the full fairings. Your bike looks cleaner than mine lol. I ride her way harder than I should for such a older bike. It seems no matter how clean I keep it, I'm always gaining new knicks and scratches. Our road have too much debris in WV (USA))

Hi Eagle Scout thanks for your comments my bike is only in good condition because it doesn’t get used in winter time . . the road salt they use here in the UK in winter is a killer for a motorcycle but looking forward to the good weather coming soon in the spring so I can get out and about again.

@@monticlassictv I absolutely understand where you are coming from. But nearing 50yrs old I try not to put off what I can do today for tomorrow is promised to no one. If weather is above 40 degrees and sunny I'm taking her out every chance I get. It's medicine/meditation for me. Good luck and safe riding.

Great video, I just bought a 2002 FZ1 with 12,000 miles for $3k it's like brand new and all original with the quiet muffler, i couldn't think of anything I would change on it

Legion Thanks Legion These FZS1000’s are one of the best bikes Yamaha ever built and I love mine I’ve also got an ST1300 Honda Pan European which is another great bike that I use for longer runs. Good luck with your own bike.

Hello Chris, I've watched a few of your videos over the last few years and always enjoy them. Your knowledge of motocross bikes is exceptional....... My friends from the Carlisle area all had motocross bikes so I followed them on my CB 750 F1 all over the Parrish ;) Bill Brown days indeed and my buddies filled Bill's pockets. Willie Mac, (Morris minor pickup 6 wheeler) Micheal Foster (JPS colours Capri) Barry Brown, Dougie Clark, to name just a few of the lads I knew who loved to race there bikes. I also had a FZ1 an 04 model that I could not help but chop with a hacksaw and mod the carbs. Must be something to do with helping my buddies get their bikes ready to race :) I have a few videos on here posted if your interested. Keep the FZs shinny side up Chris...........Colin

Hi Ollie thanks for your comments from across the pond and your stories of some of the great names including BIll Brown who is a dear friend of mine. Yeah my old Fazer’s been a fantastic bike and I’m currently getting it prepped for another trip tomorrow across Scotland. But it’s still completely original and only done minimal miles but still a great bike to ride. You say you’ve got some of your own video’s listed is there anyway to take a look at them? Thanks Chris

My winter hack is serving me well after 5 years of ownership and motorway miles. I daresay that the bolts and fittings succumb to the British weather very quickly, but it'll do the job admirably compared to my 07 R1. Might be tempted to switch out the rear shock for a Nitron R1, since you don't really need all that adjustment with the damping if your preload and rebound and specified correctly. It's on 53k miles and I very much doubt it's looking at retiring any time soon (although I did need a replacement engine when the thermostat failed on a long commute, turning the bike into an oil and air cooled bandit 1200 with a rattly bottom end). Nice to see one in OEM condition after all these years

Hi John I’m not sure which model of 1000 Fazer your going after as I don’t know what the later Fazers are like but this 2002 bike of mine is a fantastic bike and for me personally I can’t find a single fault with them. Just keep the Exup valve in the exhaust well lubed to stop it seizing up and dismantle it regularly for cleaning and maintenance and enjoy the bike. I had one of the first 600 Fazers back in 2000 and it was a great bike and I’m 6ft 4” tall but found I was dancing on the gearbox quite a lot to keep it buzzing. Then upgraded to the 1000 and never looked back and these bikes will easily give a sports bike a run for their money with that R1 detuned Yamaha motor. When it comes to size I never ever saw these Fazers as being cumbersome as I also have a Honda ST1300 Pan European which is a tank compared to the Fazer and placing the Fazer onto the centre stand is like moving a 125 compared to the big pan. But try and get a bike with decent service history and enjoy.

I have red one 2001 model. I buy it with 30,000km 2018, now I have around 77,500km on it. I love that bike sooo much I think about now to buy another one with less km on it but again only first models! I heard of after 2005 models they are not so good.

The “Exup Valve” or Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve is a gate valve located inside the collector box of the exhaust system and is operated by cables and a 12V servo motor located underneath the front of the fuel tank. The servo motor and cables open and close the valve at various throttle positions to alter the exhaust back pressure to give the best performance at all throttle positions.
