Thank you for this video. My phone was at 7%, 4 states away from family, and my neon wouldn't start. Today I learned how to hotwire the thing when it wants to throw a fit. Ty dude.

Great video, I had this issue, I replaced the starter. Again no crank. I switch the starter relay with the horn and bingo. Even the horn works. Strange but we’re good for now. What a pain, at least the starter is new

What are the appropriate battery cables to buy for a 2000 dodge neon? I read that 2 is the recommended but I keep seeing 4 and 6. And what about the sizes for the cables, same sizes? Thanks

What does it mean if you have a no crank no start (I hear a spinning noise when I'm cranking the key). Then when I finally get it to crank it runs fine. I have to let the car idle for a while or go on a drive before I can turn it off without it not cranking right up when I turn it off. But after my car is running for a while I can turn it off and on with no problem. Does that mean my starter is going bad?

If you hear a spinning noise and its not your engine spinning over, then yes it is the starter going bad

I have a 2004 Neon, I’m not getting 12 volts when I turn the ignition key to start to the relay. It has a new battery, the starter and solenoid tested out good. What do you suggest my next step to do? Thank you for your video, it really help me troubleshoot and get me this far.

Thats good you got that far, now you need a wiring diagram to see where the wire comes from and what color it is, sometimes it can be broken right under the relay terminal connector..I have to find my electrical shop manual

Its a yellow wire coming from the ignition switch C1 is the connector and the terminal is #6..that wire goes straight to the relay from the ignition switch...

Did you check or by pass the starter clutch cut off switch on the clutch pedal? Thats like your neutral safety switch on an automatic transmission...

30 comes straight from the hot wire which comes from the battery..check for a broken wire underneath that pin.

So my battery is shit and I can't even get power from the alternator to the ignition it's just clicking and dying. I tried to charge it with a viking but even with the cold mode the battery just won't hold juice. Do you have any videos on how to replace the battery I'm new to mechanics so I don't know much but am willing to learn

I don't have one on the neon but its quite simple, in the back of the battery is a flat plate with 1 bolt, a 13 mm i think and you need a long extension with a socket and ratchet to remove it. As for the battery cable remove the negative one 1st and install it last. Clean the terminals with a battery terminal cleaner..looks like a wire brush.

I would buy a can of carburetor cleaner and use the straw and spray some into the intake hose going to the throttle plate and see if it tries to start..if it does then its a fuel problem..if not then its an ignition problem..have to fiwure those out 1st...

If it doesn't light up at all, then its either the battery is stone dead or the battery terminal/battery cable is no good..you can turn the headlights on, grab the battery terminal and try to twist it, move it around, grab the cable where it goes into the terminal and give that a pull or twist and see if the lights turn on..if not then your battery is dead

@@alyoungcuda i recently bought an srt4 5 speed neon and am having this issue right now. Pin 87 gets no voltage and used a jump wire to wire it hot and still just a clicking coming from the fuse box under hood. Is pin 85 also supposed to read 12 volts?

Srt is a clutch, there is a start switch at the clutch pedal and that has to make contact in order to get power to 87 when you turn the key to start. 30 is 12 volts all the time,87 is the wire going to the starter..now the clutch switch is working correctly then someone needs to step on the clutch all the way down, turn the key to start and you should have power to 87 like the video. Check that..85 is a ground..I will see if I can find a service manual to see how the clutch switch is wired. Power jumped from 30 to 87 will crank the starter..if it does not then the starter is bad or the engine is frozen.but make sure the clutch is disengaged or the car will move.

@@alyoungcuda just an idea. I recall when electrics came out there wasnt a good enough generator unless you wanted to spend 5000. Now theres a good enough generator to keep in your electric car

the neutral switch is in the valve body in the transmission..follow the wiring to the plug that connects into the transmission

And make sure you don't have a bad battery terminal or the cable going into the battery terminal, we had a neon die and it wouldn't start with a jump but if you grab the cable going into the terminal it was green molded and rotted away and just barely making contact..had to cut the wire and shorten it to new wire and add a terminal end but when it does start, how did you get it started?

@@alyoungcuda I listen for the click sound from the fuel pump when it clicks it starts rite up no dragging sound from battery if it don't click it just drags battery and barely turns over and won't start

@@barbararodgers8286 the click sound you here is a fuel pump relay, that clicks for a few seconds to pump fuel into the injectors for the quick start, if you don't here it click then the fuel is not at the engine to start and you end up shutting the key and trying it again until the relay kicks in an fuels the injectors and then it starts...when you 1st start the car if you just turn the key on so the dash lights come on, you will hear the fuel pump hum for a few seconds
