I had a similar problem.. at the end was the injectors. Two of them didn't work well. They were rebuilt with a warranty, I never thought that could be it.

FUEL FILTER CLOGGED UP ? OR A HIDDEN SECONDARY MINI FILTER SOMEWHERE BY THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP ?( I HAD THAT FILTER PROBLEM IN A KUBOTA NOT SPRINTER.)

Interesting idea and you maybe right when it comes to diesels especially ford diesel having 2 fuel filters, but sprinters just have 1 fuel filter, this sprinter happens to be a 2003 version 2.7l diesel which is different then 2004-2006 2.7l diesel, nothing mechanically is interchangeable plus it does not have a fuel pump in the fuel tank like the 2004 and up, so someone installed an auxiliary fuel pump in the line it self, I am not sure how effective it is, so I will need to do a test, the first test I need to do is a fuel injector leak off test, which will give me an idea which fuel injectors are bad, but there might be several problems with the fuel system, also a possible problem with fuel rail seal, I do have this part I may replace it and see if there’s any changes and also I need to resolve an issue with Mass air flow system, I do think I might be able to install one from a later model sprinter we will see

Thanks interesting 🤨 thanks for liking it, tomorrow I plan to replace engine oil, clean / replace Mass Air flow sensor, also do a leak off test, not sure what order I will do this in but that’s the plan

Disagree with MAF sensor. Because you can unplug and it will start. If the egr was messed with, it could be open. If it’s open at start up, the van won't start. It will not produce a code. You're using too much of starting fluid. 1 sec squirt is all !

@@ZimaletaMotors if it's a Chinese EGR, they suck. If the EGR is open at start up it sucks too much exhaust into the cylinders and combustion levels are incorrect for ignition. This will be interesting when this is solved. Also, what is the cranking RPMS? if it is not at least 230 rpms the van will not fire.
