I've got to say Thank You. I have looked for a copy of this for a long time. I truly say thank you for posting this. I was there with a couple of friends that graduated from Notre Dame. I put together zip locks before we all went to the game with lucky charms and small photo copies of the box on stiff paper inside. I let them all know they were going to need them before the game was over. Go Pack!!!!!!!

I was there. The stadium was filled with State fans. ND was overwhelmed in every facet of the day.

This was ND's second Gator Bowl appearance during the 11 years NBC had the rights to both the bowl game and ND's home games. This happened earlier in 1999 (1998 season). In both years, ND took the place of the Big East representative as ND was a non-football member of that conference at the time. Notre Dame has since joined Georgia Tech (their opponent in 1999) and NC State's conference, the ACC, but its football team remains independent. They do however play 5 ACC teams on average a year. They also have access to the ACC's minor bowls, thus, a bowl game between ND and another ACC team cannot happen unless it is in a New Year's Six game (ND can appear in up to 2 non-semifinal Orange Bowls between 2014-25 against an ACC opponent, and will face Clemson in this season's semifinal at the Cotton Bowl). ND also appeared in 3 other NBC-aired bowls during their early years of airing their home games on NBC (2 Cotton Bowls against Texas A&M and a Fiesta Bowl against Colorado).

Very interesting fact. What's even more crazy is that they faced Colorado in the 1990 and 1991 Orange Bowls (which were both on NBC), right before the contract.

LogoAttitude Notre Dame was never in the Big East for football idiot.
@LogoAttitude3 жыл бұрын
@@johnwaffleh2p70 I know that. What I said was Notre Dame could, during their time as an Olympic sports-only member of the Big East, take the place of a full-time Big East football member like Miami in one of their bowls.

Notre Dame in a bowl game on NBC, Mike Breen calling the game, disappearing scoreboard, lots of weird about this broadcast

NBC almost never used a static score board in anything and held out longer than all others. I think it was 2003 college football with ND home games where they finally started to use one for good. Where like almost every other network used a static score box since 1998 or 1999.

He worked for NBC before Espn. He also did a NFL game in the 90s.

I’m surprised Mike Breen doesn’t do a few college football games for ESPN/ABC before the NBA season starts. He is good at football just as he is at basketball. A “ bang” for the buck.

Espn really mails in their bowl coverage because they have so many. I wish more networks televised the bowl games or sought more input to make each game special and unique. These days they just essentially fade in for the kickoff and cut away after the game ends.
@shaneharrisnj3484 Жыл бұрын
@@Knightmessenger yeah, Fox with the Cotton Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl, CBS should get the Sugar Bowl, NBC should head up the Orange Bowl, while ABC stays with the Rose Bowl. That's my idea.
