Just took mine off today due to a broken oil pump chain tensioner. Remove the two 17 mm subframe bolts in the front and loosen the two rear 17mm subframe bolts. I also removed the passenger side mount and removed the 17mm bolt in the front mount. Then I placed a floor jack under the trans and jacked it up until I had enough clearance to slide the pan off. It's sealed with Hondabond from the factory,there is no gasket but they do sell one if you'd like to use it. You may remove the transmission mount to make things easier however I didn't and it wasn't too bad of a job.

Thanks for posting this. I have a 2005 Honda CRV that was leaking oil. I changed out the head gasket just fine. Figured the bottom one would be even easier. Lol wow was I wrong. I managed to get all the bolts out, but the pan is blocked by the frame. I don’t suspect the bottom pan to be the source of the leak, but I wanted to be on the safe side. Watching this video made me wonder if I should proceed any further. I don’t have a jack stand, just drive up ramps.

Harbor Freight has decent prices on jack stands. Seems like you're almost there.

It's just 6 bolts for the subframe lol. My Chevy, I have to lift my hole engine just to get to it because the frame is solid. Honda did it right

Thanks for the info I just started doing this I love Hondas but this 2005 Honda crv sucks to work on 😭😰

I am so appreciated for this video Thank you so much!! I hear lots of others who did this job still ended up with a leaky pan in the end, Im curious of how yours come along thus far? And do you have to support engine when dropping subframe?
@stevemalec6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I just bought a 04 the leaks oil like a sieve when it is cold. not sure if the pan is also leak but I may do a timing chain ad seal up that cover and do the oil pan at the same time

It's been awhile since you replied I'm late getting back hopefully you got your car issues worked out 👍 I did all the above to mine along with the vtec solenoid

I'm wondering my friend works for ford and showed me the ultimate trick for oil pan cause my car sub frame blocked the pan from dropping so we just got all the pan bolts out and then ripped old gasket then just looped the new 1 under the oil pump and slid it in place and bolted the pan back up worked perfectly no leaks I know your pan had a hole but are you able to get the bolts without dropping frame cause then same can be applied here
@nateolmsted222 жыл бұрын
I think all the bolts are accessable. But I don't think the pan drops down enough on these to be able to wiggle the new gasket in and under the oil pickup. And you wouldn't really be able to clean up the two mating surfaces either

Looks like the row of bolts in the front are in-assessable with the sub frame bolted in place.

Thanks for this short video. So you didn't have to disconnect the lower ball joints like the Honda Service states?

I'm getting ready to do this. Did you need to remove / disconnect the ball joints like it mentions in the manual

The car is a higher mileage car. Scraping the bottom of the pan will keep your oil Newer for longer. Thanks for your input 👍

did you have to support the motor when you drop the sub frame?
@Nnfefe4 жыл бұрын
Too bad that in other to drop down the oil pan, the frame on which the engine sits must be dropped. I replaced the engine of my 2003 Honda CRV and how Honda made this very vehicle made me wonder if the engineers ever gave a thought of easy fixability. Easy fixability is so lacking that in order to replace the AC compressor, the whole front end must be dismantled. Try taking out the starter, you will encounter so many obstacles that makes you wonder that maybe it was purposely made difficult to remove due to theft prevention. I have enjoyed DIY in the many vehicles that I owned but working on 2003 Honda CRV is the hardest .

Not really. Intake, and hood latch along with the throttle cable harness for starter removal. Easy.

Sir if i clear all the bolts on that frame, the engine will not fall to the ground?

No it will not fall down the upper motor mounts will still hold the motor in place. Good luck hope it helps 👍

Too much hassle, I think its much easier to flush the engine two times with cheap oil first and oil filter then good oil with another filter. Should be just as clean after that if not cleaner.

I wanted to get more of a look in the what's going on inside. It's a car that I had just purchase for my lady. Plus it was leaking a bit of oil.
@slownlow2104 жыл бұрын
@@vincev.8888 was it leaking from the pan?
@bobbyd6680 Жыл бұрын
That's what I did, even used the 5-minute flush, after the second oil/filter change 500 miles in between that lose shit started clogging my VTEC screen. That's a whole new pain in the ass. It always seems like one hassle just leads to another. Thing is my 2003 rust belt CR-V is such a nice little car to run around town.
