I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! Your video helped me fix my problem. I had the EXACT issue with my car. I never dug that deep into my car, but I went in it with absolute confidence. Now she's purring like a kitten. one word of advice...the push rods are different size than from the front. make sure you buy the right size replacement.

I am a Technician also and I have to do the same thing to my niece 2000 Chevy Malibu and by looking at this you gave me good insight on the possible problem. I said it was a rocker arm but hoping I don't have to tap it thought but you are Great at what you thank you so much.

Helicoil repair on my Aztek lasted only 4 months before pulling out. Retapped using a time sert which looks much sturdier than the helicoil. So far, so good. Time sert seems a better way to go.

Could you post the specific helicoil tool set to purchase for this fix? I purchased Time-Sert M8x1.25 thread repair kit #1812, which I think is correct, but was hoping for some confirmation. Great video!

Is the right set 8x1.25?

Was this an issue on the earlier 3.1 liter engines that use pivot balls on the Rockers? Mine is a 1989 vin "T" Engine

2.20.16. TimeSerts are superior for thread repair. Before you loosen or torque the rocker arm bolt, always make certain that each cylinder is at TDC on its compression stroke, if you do not have a Lisle 48300 pushrod removal tool. The reason for this is, because the rocker arm bolt/aluminum threads in the head are under tremendous tension, due to the cam lifting the valves off of their seats. When I work on a Gm 3100/3400 I change the head gaskets also, while I'm doing the L.I.M. Gaskets. If you want to limit the coolant from spilling down the block valley, when taking the lower intake manifold unscrew the block drain plugs for both cylinder banks. 🤔

I've done thousands just like this never with a problem.

BTW: This isn't a 3.4 - that upper intake says it is a 3.1L . One question did you need to rotate the engine so that #6 cylinder you were working on is at TDC before tightening down?
