I just did the same job and found this video very helpful but just to note to anyone doing one - there is no need to drop the subframe at all. Once you have the front end module off - the gearbox comes off and out the front with no problems.

I’ve seen a few damaged gearbox due to failed clutch system ..,, but some of the earlier Mini had a few issues with their boxes as far as I’ve come across.

Larry Leisuresuit thanks for your review and visiting the channel. I’ve done an updated version of how to just replace the clutch rather than taking the gearbox out. It cuts the replacement time almost by 2 hours .... it’s not a bad job tho ...about 4 hours ....

Allan they are indeed. The good thing about the Milwaukee, I can control the Impact of the tool via my iPhone. They’re not too bad really these mini’s. It just requires a bit of patience.

Hi Martin... after tightening down the bolts. The main thing is the clutch plate shouldn’t move. There may be a small gaps but that’s from the clutch plate groove to allow air to flow through. So it doesn’t overheat.

Yes. Quite often. the only solution is to get a flat head screw driver and a hammer and make a clean cut around the bolt.

Do you mean cutting the tray itself so it can clear the bolts? That was about to be my next attempt to solve it, but thought I'd ask before cutting.

Yes exactly that. And by leaving the bolt in when you fit the tray back that bolt will serve it’s purpose again.

No you don’t. Really need to. Just follow the exact same steps. You’ll be fine. But keep in mind the gearbox is a bit heavy.

B B Most engine variants you can do it. Make sure you have the correct pinch tools for the collets.
