I want to thank you for your time making this video. My similar issue was the lock plate kept sliding off the other plate. So my wife bought this same replacement and wow it went in fine. 38 bucks I think. Had grommet issues when pulling out the old pins, but I put them in my vice, and spread the grommets and the pins came out, then they snapped back in. I had ZERO confidence before this video. Thank you again.

you can use a small pocket screw driver and push on the latch mechanisms on the side of the tailgate from the inside of the bed, while pulling on the each corner to unlatch one side and then the other. You can see the latch with a flash light.

Do you remember what you used to pull up the seller on amazon to obtain this same replacement trunk lock as a full assembly? Do you recommend breaking the handle as you did in the video? My 2004 Frontier pickup will unlock if I spend an hour in the rain or snow and fool with that damn lock. some DIY fixers recommend tightening that 10 mm Phillips head screw down as that ultimately seems to be the cause of these locks not working properly. Maybe some Loctite goo put on the bolt beforehand may help keep it from happening once the lock is replaced with a new one.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong the piece slides and won’t stay in place to make connection and work correctly, so I’m kinda stuck. The rods pull a little but I don’t think enough. So it won’t go in enough to unlatch from the sides to go down even when I put the piece in place.

Is it trapped shut, or can you access it from the bed side?

@@ManCrafting I think it was the assembly of the replacement ? I used the old parts on the new handle and plate and it worked ! Replaced it and everything it’s all good and working now. We troubleshooted and figured it out thank you for making the video it helped me to begin with & made it possible to even do it !! 😊

Thanks for sharing. On mine it seems each time you use the handle it moves the lock mechanism til handle does not work. Was thinking of replacing (perhaps has wear), but my plastic part has NISSAN cut out into it instead of using the emblem & I can't find a replacement like that! It is a 2001.

Carol K apparently that is the only year 07-00 to 07-01 that had that style. The exact same fit is the one I ordered. If you had the repair done at Nissan you would likely drive out with the newer version.
