USC's music alone blows aways anything Iowa has in football! USC football - one of the greatest college programs in history! All the national titles - spanning 80+ years, the conference titles, Heisman winners, all those Rose Bowls. And the Trojans have all the trappings of a national-power, - the iconic band and fight song, the gorgeous song-girls, the commitment to tradition, consistency and pomp, to highlight national champions from the 1920s to the 2000s and hopefully beyond! Fight On SC!

Iowa had a HECK of a team that year. I had a REALLY hard time deciding which team I thought would win that game ahead of time. I think I finally settled on Iowa before USC started winning bowl games every year under Pete Carroll. I think the Trojans have lost only one bowl game starting with Pete Carroll's second year with the school and it took an EXCEPTIONAL performance by Vince Young to beat them that time.

Prior to this Game, everyone was saying that the Real Rose Bowl was being played here in Miami, considering that both the USC Trojans(From the Pac-10), and the Iowa Hawkeyes(From the Big 10), were the Better Teams in their Conference, but lost their Rose Bowl Bids that year.

Modern day Penn State with Mike Yurcich as OC, Manny Diaz as DC, and James Franklin as HC reminds me of Pete Carroll era USC. This game is a great example of vintage 00s USC. First half of the game, Iowa outplayed USC a little bit, second half USC completely dominated Iowa.

Very true and I like how you can admit that like a real football fan. It's not easy watching your team go that far to have to play USC. Skeetr13 should take some lessons from you.

Also, one thing to remember is that Iowa was the Big 10 co-champion, sharing it with Ohio State, and Iowa's victories over Big 10 teams were more convincing. So I think there's a great chance that Miami or Ohio State would have lost to USC by two touchdowns or better.

Kind of a weird thought that if Iowa had won this game they might have been eligible to be national co-champs since Iowa was a great team that year. But I think that blocked field goal knocked all the wind out of their sails. I'd love to see a Big Ten team that was blown out by USC in the Rose Bowl get revenge in 2008 and play a game like UCLA did to USC in 1986 (won 45-25 after taking a shocking 31-0 halftime lead).

How much I loved Carson Palmer. Even when he was a Freshman, I knew that he had something special in him. And I don't care how many National Championships Matt Leinert had with the Trojans, that team was Carson Palmer's, he was the main reason for the Trojan,s National Championships. Carson Palmer has got to be, the best Quarterback that the Trojans ever had. Better than Paul McDonald, Pat Haden, or Rodney Peete. BETTER THAN ANY QUARTERBACK TO WEAR A TROJAN UNIFORM!!!

USC has outscored opponents 240-126 in BCS games. Aside from the Texas game, no team has scored 20 points or more on USC. Also aside from the 06' Rose Bowl, SC has outscored its opponents 202-85.

It's pretty close to dead even. The last two years USC (the Pac-10 Champ) has beaten the Big Ten runner up. And don't forget that the first Rose Bowl ended up with the Stanford coach conceding the win to Michigan so that the score didn't get even worse. The 1901 Michigan team, who finished the Rose Bowl 49-0, was one of the only teams to go undefeated, untied, and unscored upon, and finish with a bowl game shutout.

USC like Florida, Bama, LSU, and Auburn is just a big name school with a huge athletic budget and a giant state to recruit from. Iowa has to take what they can get, they don't get a bunch of 4 and 5 start recruits. They get 2 and 3 star recruits who work hard. So show Iowa some respect for having even gotten there in the first place instead of running your mouths.
@MVillani1985

Now that I think about it, it's also pretty similar to the 2007 Rose Bowl where Michigan keeps it close with USC for the first half, and then USC pulls away in the second half.

I don't know if 38-17 with a 10-10 halftime score constitutes being crushed like a high school team, but okay. But I'd say that Iowa and Penn State have been the Big Ten teams that gave USC their best run for their money this decade. After seeing some of USC's bowl games it makes me wonder why they don't just go ahead and put USC in the NCG since they always show up big for bowls. I mean look what they did to Oklahoma in 2004, that was just unreal. Looked like they were playing Temple.

USC will be sick as fuck... so glad ive been a fan for my whole life haha. we have OJ Mayo and all our young studs for basketball, and in football we are deep as fuck everywhere... 17-18 freshman can legitimately challenge for starting spots, on top of our current depth. further USC dominance here we come, just give us the BCS Championship now... and we'll work on basketball and see what happens.

And after Matt Leinart left Pete Carroll was loyal to John David Booty because he stuck it out his whole career at USC waiting for his chance. Not putting Booty down, but his first year when he took over he almost took USC to the national title game. The following year I beleive Sanchez should have taken over especially when Booty broke his finger against Stanford in that lost.

WTF??? "10-2 record, best since 1968" ??? What about 10-0-1 in 69 or 12-0 in 72 or 10-1-1 in 74??? Or 12-1 in 78 or 11-0-1 in 79 or 10-2 in 88??? Nice job ESPN, I remember, nobody thought the Trojans had chance against the "bigger stronger" Big 10 team. Typical East Coast treatment of a Pac 10 team.

Actually OU sold about 35,000 tickets, while USC sold about 25,000. And there is only one Rose Bowl to USC...the one in Pasadena, CA. To them there really is no Rose Bowl North, South, East, Mid-South, North-East...etc, just the one in CA. USC basically owns everyone in the Big 10 (see Michigan X2 and Iowa) and SEC (Arkansas and Auburn both in back-to-back years this decade). They beat OU in the Orange and lost to Texas in the Rose. They beat Va Tech in DC, and are at UVA this year.

One thing you can say about Big Ten, they may be shit overall, but compare their defenses to other teams from the Pac-10 and the ACC and they can fucking hit. Like the power of your hits won't win you your games, but that's what the Big Ten recruits for.

And everyone is seeing why Pete Carroll wanted Mark Sanchez to come back. I mean yes the opportunity was there for Mark Sanchez to take. Pete Carroll yes he says that he said Sanchez was not ready yet but lets be honest if he would have come back this year the offense would have been prolific and not too much pressure would have been on the defense. Having an experienced qb makes a huge difference. I know it sounds like excuses but if Im wrong someone prove my point.
