I had marched the 3 previous years but this particular season we received a LOT of phan mail. Most were from people telling us our show brought them to tears. A gentleman wrote us saying he almost missed the show because his brother's funeral was the same day. He heard Amazing Grace two or three times throughout the day and was able to not cry at all. He thought his brother would have wanted him to go to the show so he went. We played Amazing Grace as our encore and he said he just broke down in tears. "You got me!" It was truly humbling to witness people in the stands wiping away tears because of how much they were impacted by our performance. What an incredible summer that was. SUTA !!

Just saw this post. I competed in drum corps in 1975 and 1976 with Guardsmen also from Illinois. Guardsmen folded years ago. I then adopted Phantom as my favorite. Guardsmen made finals in 1976 for the first time. A cool memory of Phantom Regiment is in 1975. We were warming up in a high school room before the show. Phantom was outside warming up. Man, I heard that horn power from them through the wall! Phantom in the reason I love classical music to this day. Thanks for being in the great Phantom Regiment! SUTA! 🎉😊❤

It's a reference to a visual in the show. The hornline holds their legs up for a beat when it says that. It's not really a focus of the finals vid.

Very cool video, thanks for posting. Love all the tour pictures. I marched for six years in DCI and we stayed at a lot of questionable housing sites, but we never got the opportunity to have floor time on a tennis court! It's those kind of things that make this activity so unique and awesome :)
@PhanRegSop5 күн бұрын
lol it sure made our California tour memorable. The gym that we were supposed to be in was occupied with some kind of volleyball camp I think, and the buses were turned off, so they became very hot once the sun came up, so we chose the court.

@@steveanderson7861 As I recall, both Dream and Regiment had done the Huntington Beach parade earlier that day (4th of July parades). Somehow, Dream BEAT Regiment at HB...I STILL have no idea how THAT happened! I think I ended up winning DM at PP, if only because we got stalled by a float in front of us just as I reached the salute line. I;m a veteran, and I knew that protocol was to render the salute about 6 steps away from who/what you were rendering it to....also that you held it for 6 steps after if it was a designated point like a line on the ground. So there I am, marking time AT the line, holding the salute...and the judges were obviously older vets themselves, because I saw them nodding in approval! Close to the end of the route, we were stopped (in the shade, thankfully!) and a local tv reporter did a small feature on us...and had clearly not stood next to someone calling a group to attention who knew how to project. I think I scared her out of a few years!
