2003 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

Valve cover gasket replacement on our 2003 Tundra V8 4.7L engine.
This was so much easier to do than on our 2007 4Runner. So much less to take off the engine before even getting to the valve cover. Overall it was a pretty quick and simple process. If you're wondering about doing it yourself it's really not a hard project at all.
Took me maybe an hour a side. The tools I used for the valve cover gasket replacement were...
10mm socket and extensions to get all the bolts off. A wobble socket connector would be helpful.
torque wrench set to 109 inch pounds (9 foot pounds)
Knife or razor to scrape crud off the cover surface
Some parts cleaner and shop rags to clean the mating surfaces
Toyota FIPG (RTV sealant) for the corners and half moons
Felpro Valve cover gasket kit from Rock Auto (with spark plug tube caps and the replacement grommets (18 total))

Perhaps I missed it in your video... why have you applied the FIPG just at those corners? (I got the half moons application, those are metal to metal joints) You did it also at only two spots when working on your 4Runner cover seals video...

I put them at those two other areas as they’re a fairly acute angle and from what I’ve watched online before they suggest hitting those other areas too to ensure a good seal.

What do you call those the one you took out from the bolts and replaced it with new ones?

Grommet washers. They’re rubber washers with a metal cap on them

Can u use regular ultra black gasket sealent

Not recommended. Likely to leak, this is one time you dont want to cheap out on sealent. Get the correct stuff from toyota themselves.

You should definitely wear gloves. Especially when spraying brake cleaner. Brake cleaner is so chemically strong. It has long term effects. Take care of your health. Health is wealth.

Have you ever sprayed brake cleaner onto your glove? It dissolves into nothing. So what purpose would the glove function

@@dillong9231 - I wear 13 mil gloves and use brake cleaner daily. It does weaken them, but it doesn’t dissolve them. And if you see that it does that to the gloves, imagine what it’s doing to your skin cells. I’m not trying to shame you I am just throwing some diamonds out there. There are a lot of old-school mechanics that wish they took better care of their health when working with these chemicals.
