So the rockers just sit on top and not get bolted down with thier own bolt. I want to do this to my 4.2 but i have way too many questions.

You seem like a couple of decent guys.. I can't say the same for your instructor. The way your holding the torque your lucky you didn't twist off a bolt or strip the heads. You take the bolts down in "Degrees" so they are all putting the same force on the head. You take them down say to 20 or 30 ft-lbs then go back over and take them to 65 etc......... You do not take the center down start out then back up. The cam gears do not go on until the head is installed. Good luck if this thing ever starts!

Bad torque job.... installed cams with head off instead of on. People watching this ... do not start at the final torque! You torque everything in stages. Finger snug then such as 26, 52, 78, 106 Plus you hold the torque wrench properly so you're tool works properly. The phase cam was not installed right either. Timing may be off. GM standard on this also requires a torque plus degree wheel. Do not guess it. You can literally print and make your own degree wheel. Don't eyeball it.
