This was after the Spurs of San Antonio denied the Lakers' four peat of a NBA Champion, Detriot Red Wings won the Stanley Cup defeating reigning Stanley Cup Champions Colorado Avalanche. This was during Michelle Tanner's 12th Grade Senior Year at Bayview High School in San Francisco, California from Full House. Also my fifth born cousin Ariel "Sweety" Stevens, my Auntie's first born daughter, and my cousin Romeo's sister on my Mom side was a 12th Grade Senior at Jess Lanier High School in Bessemer, Alabama.

They were exiting but that years LSU team looked more physical and even more athletic.

Probably one of college football's most unanswered questions. Who was better? USC or LSU? Pete Carroll or Nick Saban? The 2003 teams would have matched USC's better offense against LSU's better defense. While the LSU defensive line may have been more physical, I don't buy that LSU was more athletic though. It is often argued that USC's wide receivers have never matched up against physical DB's like LSU but you could also argue that LSU had never seen such a diverse passing attack as USC? Outside of Florida, the SEC wasn't much of a passing conference. I don't know but I would have really loved to see an LSU - USC matchup.

I’ve always had an out of consensus view this was the best Carroll team. The running game wasn’t 04 or 05s yet but the receiving corps in Williams, Smith and Colbert was ridic and Leinert had his most efficient season. The D was arguably the best of the era particularly the DL with tatupu and Grootegooed plugging holes and corner rushing. The other thing is there were some close calls in 04 and 05 that people don’t remember but in 03 the Cal game was only close game and lost it in double OT to a Cal team with Aaron Rodgers firing on all cylinders. And they blew out top-rated teams like Wash St and Auburn at home. The Rose Bowl was over in the third quarter with the D totally dominating a solid Michigan team. It’s an interesting counter factual though but I think if athleticism was the only edge LSU had, it wasn’t by much given the talent of this SC team. It’s a squad I’d put on par with any of the 90s Nebraska or 2010s Alabama teams

Samuel Haskins that’s a great point and don’t disagree. Just in general I think people overlook the fact the 04 and 05 teams had some very close calls whereas the 03 team destroyed everyone except the 3x OT loss away to Cal

No, you're not crazy. You're definitely a bit stupid, though. USC cheated their way to being an all time great in 04. The 03 team was not that great, didn't even make it to the title game.

I got no problem with usc in fact I wanna see them return to elite status but I have to know how in the hell can they claim a natty in 03 when the top 2 in the BCS standings lsu and Oklahoma played for it?
@hamsammy8184
@hamsammy8184 2 жыл бұрын
We didn't "claim" anything. It was handed to us by the AP, who's been handing out national championships since the 1930's. It was the only recognized national championship given before the BCS and CFP. Only time they've ever given it to a team who didn't win the BCS national championship. They along with a lot of people thought it was BS that SC didn't get to play in the title game and thought they were the best team in the country all year.

@@savagetigerfbfan6673 You're just a LSU/SEC fanboy, SC would've spanked LSU lol.LSU shouldn't of even been in the national title game with their cupcake schedule look it up. SC doesn't play cupcakes like Lousiana Monroe. And wtf are you talking about? AP is the OG national title and like I said, this is the only time in history they've picked someone other than BCS champion so obviously they have a point lol. Guess I shouldn't be suprised you guys need yard markers every 5 yards down there...yeesh

@@hamsammy8184 cupcake schedule?? Gimme a break lol LSU is top 5 every year in toughest schedules played you wanna talk about schedules? It’s a shame that in that pac 12 conference some years you had the most talent in the conference and can’t win it. Oklahoma was prolly the best offense in the country that year along with the best defense it was one of the most complete teams I seen in my lifetime and they averaged a ton of points per game and our defense held em to 14. In that case they coulda made an argument that in 2004 auburn that didn’t get to play in the natty the AP could crown em and in 2017 UCF the only undefeated team that beat auburn a team that beat the national champs Bama that didn’t even win the SEC west that year.

LSU and USC had two common opponents. USC won at Auburn 23-0, LSU won at home against Auburn 31-7. USC won at Arizona 45-0, LSU won at Arizona 59-13. The thing that separates LSU from USC is the two wins LSU had over Georgia, 17-10 in Baton Rouge and the 34-13 win in Atlanta in the SEC Championship game. USC didn’t have a win against anyone of that caliber.

USC would have destroyed LSU or Oklahoma in 2003. The 2003 Trojans were too good and dominant. The only reason why they didn't play in the BCS is that loss against Aaron Rodgers and Cal with the upset.
