Wow. This is a DATED production! If USC learns anything from this, it is something that is completely attainable in Southern California: Hire the best coach. Stop playing around with interim coaches, assistant coaches elevated. Each and every time USC needs a new head coach, the best in the nation should be hired, and the recruiting should mainly come from California and points west (Hawaii, Samoa, etc.).

Yup. No reason to handle it that way. Always wondered what McKay was thinking. Of course, he later regretted leaving. I think him leaving kinda started USC on this boom or bust cycle.

I saw Pat Haden and JK McKay fling it around for Bishop Amat against Mater Dei in 1970 in a game at Mt. SAC. As an 8 year old, it was electrifying to see them work together.
