Some tips on issues I ran into or could have done differently replacing the clutch slave cylinder on my 2004 BMW R1150RT.

I had an idea to drill a drain hole as that would at least keep it from taking out the clutch disc. I may try to put either a seal or a o-ring in the trans main shaft to seal the pushrod, but I’ll see as I have to go all the way , trans out and clutch pack disassembled and while there, maybe check out the main seal. I did already change oil. Here’s a tip from me with 42 yrs as engine machinist, older engines, put an oz per qt of KW TransX in the blue and silver bottle when you change oil, it’s seal conditioner and I’ve personally had cars go from valve seals leaking so they burned a qt per 800 miles and over time go to 2500 mi per qt and it fixed other seal leaks too. Good Stuff!

I bought a 03 1150R with 10,068 mi and had set for awhile, well I’m less than 100 mi since I got it and clutch slips at speed when it hits powerband in high gears so I’m suspecting clutch slave leaking thru trans input shaft on the disc. I’m not happy. Even with regular riding the input shaft splines are to be lubed with a high %moly lube so it’s a whole trans pull. They could have prob put a seal or o-ring to keep brake fluid from traveling up the clutch shaft and taking out the disc. I’m afraid of riding it as is as I don’t want to burn hot spots on the metal (pressure) plates. Hopefully I can get a used motorcycle lift to work on this. I had a 1000 GoldWing in 1975 and it didn’t have these issues even though I had engine out 3 times in 50K mi. I always wanted a BMW motorcycle (R90S back in the day) so here I am in retirement going back to work as a motorcycle mechanic😜

I feel your pain. It's a miserable job takes way too much mental energy to even wanna tackle that task. Somebody mentioned drilling a hole so fluid can drain out. I mean that could keep the clutch dry but doesn't fix the issue. These slave cylinders are obviously junk. Should not be swapping out with low miles. Good luck
