2004 Dodge Dakota Headliner Replacement

Walkthrough of how to replace your truck headliner on a 2004 Dodge Dakota.
I used 3M Super 77 Adhesive, and picked up the fabric from a local craft store. Don't skimp on the adhesive!

The back buttons are what the back light above your bed is screwed into just unscrew the light and they come right out

I had to take my front passanger seat out and then was able to remove the headliner out the back passanger door

Hey! Nice video!! I was wondering, in the video you stated that you removed the front seats to clean them. Is it necessary to remove both front seats to take out the liner and put it in? I did my jeep Cherokee and it was so easy with the back hatch, but I've been dreading doing my '03 4-door Dakota for a while.

Nope! Great question. I removed them for cleaning but they don’t block anything. It can be a bit more of a haste to get the seatbelts off but very doable with the seats in.

I know im super late to the party, but I am just about to tackle thw headliner in my dakota and i was wondering if you still had stl files for the 3d printed buttons? If so, i would be super grateful if you could dm me a copy. Im new to both interior repair and 3d printing, so I'll take any help that I can get.

Hi Will! Not late to the party at all. I should make an update video. I can certainly send an STL file but wouldn’t recommend using it. The design I came up with didn’t have enough flexibility to work out right. I’m currently in rev 3 of the design and still haven’t found something I like. As an alternative, you may want to go to a junkyard and see if you can find some buttons, or order some from Amazon. Thanks so much for commenting. I am later than you! lol Did you see the above comment? Says those are available at oreillys auto parts, I am not sure they still carry them but later today I will probably find out! My 2003 Dakota had No headliner what so ever so I am off to gopullit, one of my local jun...um, auto recycle yards...lol...

Hey Chuck , I have a 2004 dakota and i actually did this project about 8 yrs ago, have a question , I had these large white plastic pieces that sit between the headliner board and the roof i suppose to help form fit the board ? however they kicked my butt (in fact one still isnt back in) did you not have these in your model ? I watched hoping you had tip to get these in place . PS. those "button" s that you 3D printed ... I found them at the local auto parts store (oreilly) and was able to snap them right in -- Tip for any brave one to tackle this job !!!

Hi Sarah! Much appreciated on the buttons. I will be hitting up O’Reilly since my 3D printed buttons didn’t work out well. I did have those! But I didn’t remove them. They stayed in place and I pulled the headliner piece out from beneath them. My recommendation would be to just get a good look and see if they can flex to get into place. Though you may need to break out the super glue, double sided adhesive tape, or something else to get em to stay where you want em. Best of luck!

The buttons come off you have to unscrew the light on from the outside above the bed

Good video. It would be nice to see you trimming the excess, how it was cut. Was the material rolled over the edge or cut flush with the edges? Thank you.
