First off good video. A family members 04 dodge regular cab 2wd wouldn’t start. I looked/checked everything under the hood. Tested starter/ battery/ fuses/ relays/ pulled the harness to the fuse block and from the computer on the firewall. I even cleaned all the grounds in the starting system. Left the truck overnight, came home and hit google. Seen your video didn’t think much of it moved on. Watched a few others and read some forums. Came back to the truck in the morning to give it another go. Looking up under the dash at me was that plug. In the floorboard, the key... Its an aftermarket anti theft device. You happen to have a similar truck. Thank you sir.

I am having a similar issue with my 1998 Dodge 5.2 conversion van except, when I turn the key, I can hear a click down in the doghouse area. (starter solenoid maybe?) I pulled off my dash and discovered that I have an after market DEI security system installed. I looked up the model number and downloaded the user's manual for it and discovered that it also comes with a starter disconnect option for anti-theft. I did not get a key fob with the van when I bought it and had no idea it had any of this in there. I have that same yellow wire as you have coming from the ignition switch and it has been split and goes into a relay that I am guessing is the starter disconnect relay. I am going to jump the relay and see if it starts. If not, I will test the starter to see if it is getting a signal from the ignition switch or not. Thanks for posting this video as, my service manual wiring diagram shows a brown and yellow wire coming from the ignition switch which I do not have, but I do have that exact same yellow wire as you show in your video and wires from the security system box go into 3 relays of which one is the one that attaches to the split yellow wire.

I didn't know what to do. I rolled it to try to fix a stuck starter. I took off the battery terminal for a sec then put it back on. it started and is ok for now. bur was trying to look up and see what cld have caused it. I'm glad I seen ur video bc I expect I be dealing with this again. thank you

It is a DEI ignition cut out. It was an aftermarket option for high crime areas, and offered the owner of one of these devices a discount for insurance. Common up to the next gen OBD II wiring. Now, for security, auto makers simply cut fuel sending for security purposes. Simply reattach your starter wire. Problem solved

@LifeSavingDefense10 ай бұрын
I think many of these are put in by the dealer. My 2003 dodge ram was brand new 13 miles when I bought it I asked for the alarm package and it looks like somebody put it in at home and the parts are made from China. I have an 02 dodge ram that we bought used that has different parts, but basically the same thing . I think the dealers just pay somebody to put this crap in . You think there’d be OEM wiring harness that can be directly hooked in from the factory, but I guess that would be too easy

Saw one of these gizmos on a 90s Camaro, on hers the socket broke, using a multimeter hers had 3 circuits going through it, but the key itself had to be the right key, example pin 1 would go through the key and end up on opposite end on pin 7, pin 2 back out on pin 5, etc etc.......lets say there where 9 different keys made, all had different in/out positions so only a key #3 would start her car......finally ohmed her key out and cut wires then spliced proper in/outs together bypassing that crap. Other comments are correct, it’s an additional anti theft device, apparently popular in higher crime areas, rudimentary starter disable Also watch for the old “pager” disable modules......basically black box car dealers installed for buy here pay here, under dash, if you where late on payment the “paged” your number and car no start......worked similar and very easy to bypass

Is a starter interrupt I have installed many of these as the sales dept sold them as added security, they are made to remove the key when you get out and push it back in when you return to the car, these are garbage especially when they are removed and reinstalled many times they get a bad contact and burn best thing to do is remove and reattach the yellow wires solder or butt connector
