2004 Lincoln Navigator Brake to Shifter Interlock Override

How to override the brake to transmission interlock solenoid. Could not press in shifter button when in park with Navi running and brake pressed. Brake lights came on when pressing brake so I think the brake interlock switch at the pedal is ok. First video ever...sorry for not keeping camera centered.

Thank you for sharing this video. We have the exact same problem with our 2004 Lincoln Navigator. Like yours, it is intermittent, making efficient troubleshooting almost impossible. This is a decent temporary fix.

found out from my mechanic that the solinoid is actuated by your brake light switch. if it wont unlock shifter you also wont have brakelights. $29 at parts store, swaps out without tolls in 5 minutes, aon top of brake pedal.

As I said in the description, the brake lights are coming on so it's probably not the brake light switch. Again, this is to get you out of jamb, when you don't have a $29 part available.

Sorry Ephraim. That stinks. Is it possible to repair it with a 2-part epoxy? How about a junk yard parts place? Even if you don’t find an exact match shifter, you might be able to use the rod.

Yes, Dorman sells a full steel rod, no plastic. It's like $30. Google 2004 Lincoln Navigator shift assembly. You'll see ads for it. It's a steel bar that goes through that tube.

The tape will eventually fail over time especially with inside getting super hot in the summer. I just zip tied mine.

My aviators shifter moves from park, reverse, nuetral, and drive but doesnt actually shift. It remains in park.

Did you track it down? Maybe the cable is disconnected down on the transmission??

Yep the transmission linkage failed right where it attachted the cable to the trans. Pretty simple fix. I ended up pulling the engine out for a Mustang swap shortly after but i still have the suv. Thinking of throwing my old 2v in it lol
