2004 Nickel: Lewis and Clark

Coin Characteristics
Reverse Description: Features an angled, side-view of the keelboat with full sail that transported members of the expedition and their supplies through the rivers of the Louisiana Territory in search of a northwest passage to the Pacific Ocean. Built to the specifications of Captain Lewis, the 55-foot keelboat could be sailed, rowed, poled like a raft, or towed from the riverbank.
The design, by United States Mint sculptor/engraver Al Maletsky, shows Captains Lewis and Clark in full uniform in the bow of the keelboat.
Obverse Description: The obverse bears the likeness of President Jefferson.

Just emptied my bag and saw the difference in the reverse side, so I looked it up and learnt something today. Usually I notice the odd one out in things, that's how I found a buffalo nickel. Hopefully I can find a very valuable one.

Louisiana Purchase was in 1803. In 1804 Lewis and Clark set off on their mission, starting in Missouri. They completed their mission in 1806. They also weren't the first white people to get there; fur traders were already there, having gone a different route through Canada, which is where the Columbia river starts. It ends where Oregon and Washington meet at the Pacific Ocean. (I'm a coin geek AND history nerd)
