Thanks for posting this a few years ago! I got mine done this weekend. It’s really tight and a PITA but I got my HVAC issues resolved. Here’s how I believe it is set up with dual temp controls: My truck is a 2010 Titan with Rockford Fosgate and dual controls. I’m posting this because I couldn’t find it anywhere else: My truck has four actuators. 1) easy to see on the drivers side by the right foot. Opens and closes air flow to the floor. 2) the one described above that controls two levers that affect airflow between vents, windshield, floor. 3) the one on the passengers side, high up just under the dash, to the left of the airbag. This one controls hot/cold mix to the driver’s side if you have dual controls. 4) on the passengers’ side by the left foot. It’s visible at the floor level just behind the forward console plastic trim. This one controls hot/cold mix to the passengers side (with dual controls). I’m pretty sure the 4th one is not present if you don’t have dual controls.

The top screw is 5.5mm, bottom two are 7mm. My Titan doesn’t have the Rockford Fosgate audio and I was able to replace the actuator without removing any other components. I used a 1/4” drive ratchet for two of the screws and a 7mm open ended wrench for the screw behind the computer bracket.

Thanks for posting this video. I just did this 'repair' on my 2007 Titan this past weekend. The job went way smoother than I anticipated. The main issue was the amp bracket pictured at 0:57 was in the way of directly pulling out the broken actuator. I actually ended up removed the plastic 'plate' that the actuator is mounted to and, of course, the white damper actuator slide plate fell out to the floor. Luckily, after a bit of thought, it was not too hard to figure out the orientation of the white damper actuator. I was actually able to remount the plastic plate (shown behind the amp bracket at 0:57) and then roll the actuator into position behind the amp bracket. I didn't even have to unplug the amp at all. I just removed the two 10mm socket head bolts from the amp and rolled it to the side. The two 'bottom' screws on the actuator have a T20 torx drive so you don't need to use the 9/32 (7 mm) socket if you don't want to. The top screw (the 5.5mm) can be driven with a 7/32 socket as well. I couldn't believe I got this done in about 2 hours. By the way, this actuator is the AIR MODE ACTUATOR. The "blend door" actuator is the one that is on the passenger side of the dash that blends the cold and hot air together.

Is there a difference as far as the part between the passenger side and the driver side? I'm trying to call the auto parts store and they don't know the difference. It's only telling them door blender actuator. So my question is does that part fit both or are they actually different?

This helped me do the job, took about 1 hour and a lot of bad words. For the 7 mm screw right by the bracket you'll need a wrench as opposed to a ratchet. A ratchet won't fit between that mount and the screw. Also, big thing to add. Your new actuator will come with the teeth "opening" pointing up, but the actuator you take off your vehicle may have the teeth in a different orientation (pointing left or right), you'll need to take your new actuator apart so that the "opening" is in the exact same position as the one you're replacing or it won't fit. It's very easy to take apart and just turn the teeth to where it should be to match your old actuator.

I have that actuator click on my 2004 titan also. That was the first thing I noticed when I started it up to check it out at the auction. I think I will just live with the clicking noise until the actuator's actually fail completely. I think this happens on all early titan models along with the paint fading on the top of the hood and cab and other issues. The only thing I have left to fix is the actuator click and the hood and top of cab paint problem. However, I have to admit, I love my Titan.....

Thank you, Scuba! Saved me a hell of a lot of headache! BTW, if you've got the really big Amp for the Titan with the premiere audio system with DVD and all that jazz you can... convince... the bracket that the Amp is bolted to to move outwards (rearward into the cab) back just a smidgen. The Amp comes out then. Just a smidgen though.

Thank hyou for showing this. I was looking at the schematic of how this whole heater/AC system works. It's EXTREMELY over complicated. In the dark ages (before cruise control), a heater simply had a metal deflector that one moved by hand. I'm sure car companies could come up with something less complicated (and thus cheaper) than the mess they have now. If it is made with any electronic parts, it's going to fail. If it is made with any electronic parts, it's going to be unnecessarily more expensive.

The reason some say you have to remove the dash, is because there are up to 4 or 5 actuators on the older (non-dual driver/passenger control) system, not just the 2 actuators, there are 2 to 3 more actuators in other places, some are not so easy to get to. As some have stated, the one behind the glove box, you might be able to reach without taking the dash off, but not sure about the last two. Look at the HVAC / heater box diagram, the one I saw for an '06 Titan shows 5 actuators total.

I confirmed that the part it connected to also had the double D drive. I had ordered the new actuator and had to send it back as it came with the splined/star shaped drive.

Hi Danny. You are correct, there are 3 of them. (2) on the Driver's Side & (1) on the Passenger Side. Do you know which knob is causing the sound? Mine was the Blend door (vent setting) which is the Actuator up top on the Driver's Side. The temperature knob Actuator is up top on the Passenger Side. If it's the Blend Actuator, when you change which vents the air will come out, it will cause that click. If it's the temperature Actuator, when you go from hot & cold it will cause the click. The Actuator that's right next to the gas pedal is easy to debunk.....just remove the panel that covers it and unplug the Actuator.....that will allow you to eliminate that one from the problem.

Hi Steve thanks for the vid! My 2004 will only blow cold air. When I turn the temp knob to heat it does absolutely nothing. No audible clicking either. I know this will be a pain to replace since it’s the upper blend door on the passenger side. Is there anything else to check before tearing into the dash? P.S... Both hoses on each side of the flow valve going to the heater core on the firewall are warming up hot So I do not believe its that valve. Any insight you could give me would be appreciated. Once again when I turn from cold to hot no clicking sound no nothing .

@scubasteve34953 жыл бұрын
So in this video, mine had the rockford stereo with amp......you just have to work it behind the mounting brackets
@michaelhowell55553 жыл бұрын
So the only way I could get the R/F amp out of the way enough to get at the unit was to unbolt the gas pedal assembly from the firewall and move it out of the way. That way the amp dropped down to the floor and was entirely out of the way, didn’t have to disconnect the harnesses from the amp nor the gas pedal assembly. Also, the white plastic cam dropped when I removed the bad actuator, and I ended up removing the plastic cover (2 tiny screws) to install the cam properly oriented so the actuator installed onto the spline. Got it all together and works great, I think I’m getting better air to the foot wells than I was too.

@scubasteve34954 жыл бұрын
OEM historically are better quality. There's a ton of aftermarket parts that are very good, but also a ton that are very much garbage. With a repair that's fairly time consuming as this, going with the part that has a better track record is your safest bet. Remember, this is my opinion.....there are alot of people who may disagree and those who agree
