Thanks so much for this. Car smelled of exhaust fumes. Mechanic discovered and pointed out fuel pump leak. Saw the gas around that area. $1000+ estimate to have repaired. Ordered part online $150+. Refundable deposit on fuel pump remover tool kit rental at NAPA/AutoZone. Car up and running. No leaks. 2007 RX8. Thumbs up!!

Bro, I know this was 8 years ago. But have an 07 Rx8 that brought me here. Believe the fuel pump is the problem. Will turn and crank. Will ALMOST sputter to life but won't get where it needs to fire and start. Tried to deflood it, first time I was able to pull the fuel pump wire, turn the key and crank it with a little depression of gas pedal, connect the wire and it started right up. Second time, it did not work. Thinking fuel pump is toast

Nice and pretty detail video. Thanks for sharing. Got a quick question though - would u be able to show how exactly that needed to be done with the fuel pump change itself to the unit that is hidden from the video? I am planning to change to Walbro 255 pump and just not too sure if i can DIY without any much of mechanical knowledge. Thanks.

How did you know it was time to change the fuel pump? I recently started experiencing some issues on long drives where the rpms would suddenly die on me. When I pulled over and restarted the car a couple of times, all would be fine again. I'm not sure if that means the fuel pump's on it's way out but I'd like to do some PM before it's catastrophic. Does that sound like a fuel pump symptom?
@MTBfixHQ10 жыл бұрын
sorry I couldn't tell you for sure, but have you changed you ignition coils ever? sometimes they can act up when they get hot if they are old, i did not experience those symptoms with my rx8

How do I see if the filter is clogged?
@75thTheDude6 жыл бұрын
is it normal that the car smells like gasoline like crazy after reparing it? I do everything myself on the rx8 like replacing clutch, brakes, exhaust and some other stuff but had this done by a mazda shop because mazda did a recall for the fuel pump. smells like that for 3 days now.. loved the smell of leather before
@MTBfixHQ6 жыл бұрын
Depending how messy they were fuel smell can stick around, I was pretty clean when doing it so I never had any fuel smell afterwards, not that I could tell anyways. Remove the seat and cover to see if there are any leaks, also mention it to the shop that did the work
@75thTheDude6 жыл бұрын
Jack Sadek thanks for the fast reply. I removed the backseat and noticed that they spilled gas over the metal plate that sourrounds the pump.. they kinda cleaned it but not too much. After cleaning it myself the smell gets less and probably just disappears.
