Great video, I did hear the swish sound when removing the vice grips. For the 2001 sportsman 400 the manual wanted you to wait 45 to 60 second for priming. Maybe that was the difference.

From my understanding from Polaris ATV forum from veteran Polaris Sportsman owners is the oil screen is rarely or never clogged up to the point of removing and cleaning. Just a guess here but probably would only need cleaned if say the original owner never changed the oil with several hours on the machine. Although best to use one's own judgement as far as service goes.

Great video , is the rear gearcase connected to the transmission because I can't find a drain plug?
@Simpsons.R.S6 жыл бұрын
Mario Rosati ahh depends on what year it is. And I guess mid 04s changed. But they are all one case but I'm pretty sure they each take their own fluid. I haven't done it yet on his sportsman so I'm not 100% sure.
@keithblackhair46896 жыл бұрын
What kind of front gear case fluid are you suppose to use? The angle drive one or the demand one?
@Simpsons.R.S6 жыл бұрын
Keith Blackhair if I'm not mistaken, the front takes the demand and the rear is the angle drive 👍

You could do videos on spark plugs and air filters for people like me who've never done any of this stuff before.

I actually have a few like that on Mt channel... I do plan on doing some more of that once I get the new garage built 👍 thank you!

You'll know when the oil begins to circulate.. The engine will be clattering, and will quieten down when the oil fills the crankcase and begins to circulate. If you ride the bike, and it's clattering louder than usual.. Stop! The oil is not circulating and you can damage the engine. Also, if you remove the screen and clean it as Polaris recommends.. That fitting should be cleaned of oil and re-installed with blue Loctite.

Hey bro I'm asking what kind of oil can I put on my 2004 Polaris sportsman 400 4x4
@Simpsons.R.S4 жыл бұрын
Honestly I would just run the Polaris ps4 oil. It's basically liquid gold with a pretty hefty price tag. But after reading info about Polaris engines and what not... I would rather be safe then sorry and run the oem oil.

@@Simpsons.R.S can I use mobile 1 0w40 full synthetic

@@Simpsons.R.S or 5w 40
@Simpsons.R.S4 жыл бұрын
@@louieg7037 haha technically you can run whatever you want. The ps4 is a 5w-50. So I would recommend running something closer to that. I think Lucas makes some too. But I'm guessing it's just as expensive.

How do you have a fuel gauge I dont mine is the same year

Actually being it's a 2004, they changed them half way through so it might be a earlier or later model.

With that amount of steel on the magnet your camshaft is on its way out those motors are known for it

Sean Massey Good call. I made sure he was aware of what was on the magnet. He is going to keep an eye on it. 👍

hi all,i have had a 96 model 500 sportsman for 17 years and a 07 model 500 sportsman for 9 years and had more metal on the drain plug when i did the first oil change when i first got them and very minor amounts when ive done other changes and none of them miss a beat and going strong ,just so people dont get scared seeing a little steel paste on the drain plug and think instantly the canshaft is gone ,they even sound better and less trouble than my 2015 sportsman,cheers

@mattnetko22823 жыл бұрын
@@Simpsons.R.S odd, I've owned and worked on quite a few polaris quads from this generation they're all wet sump, drain the pan, change the filter, fill through dip stick and away you go just like a car without a fill tube. Thanks for showing the service light reset, thanks to the vid I was finally able to get this one to stop flashing on start up.
@Simpsons.R.S3 жыл бұрын
@@mattnetko2282 correct you can just drain it from the reservoir and refill. But if you drain from the engine and unhook the line, you really should burp the system.
@mattnetko22823 жыл бұрын
@@Simpsons.R.S I'm saying there is no line, no reservoir, just an oil pan. It's a wet sump.
