You can use the swingarm bolt (the book mentions this) if careful with it, same size threads as the flywheel, using that and EXTREME force you can get that flywheel off.. Good Luck!

Hey Harley, i have a 2001 GS500 naked. When i hit the Starter button, it sounds like the starter clutch is getting stuck somehow. It doesn't whine, more like a quick sounding chirp ( or the sounds of someone holding in a sneeze, then releasing it lol ) And ideas?? Thanks

i have a 600 katana. . same starter problems. .. push starting it and then everything works as it should. .. then repeats the problem after sitting ... any thought of it being same situation? ? when cover off no problems. .funny huh

A Suzuki GS500 does not have a Magneto. It has a Permanent Magnet Flywheel and Stator. Magnetos are for small cc bikes.

My 95 gs500 is seized. Wont turn over. Cleaned clutch plates and it started to turn over. Now seized again. Anybody know torque on the spring bolts?

If it spun "the other way" when starting, the motor would be turning backwards...

It can't spin the other way, it just freewheels.
