I have the same problem. I have spark, fuel, 120 compression, oil level correct, cranks but doesn't start. I started the car, moved it to the curb and later that day never started back up again. I'm puzzled.

I have a 07 Toyota Camry 2.4l in the shop with the same problem. It crank no start, I have spark, fuel pressure in spec. injectors pulse are good, all cylinders compression are between 133 and 137 psi but still not starting. I am going to go back on it tomorrow to check the timing. I most say 47:13 in your diagnostic you guys have me laughing👍🏽

After you add the oil if the compression goes up, yes you can.

I understand it needs an engine but I'm curious why wasn't it starting and what made it finally start was it the brake line cleaner when you sprayed it in the intake, the 2 caps of oil you poured where the spark plugs go, or when you removed the oxygen sensor

The combination of these increases the ve just enough, that engine saw something bad, would be nice to know, but is wore due to low oil pressure.

My 2005 Camry 2.4 is doing this exact same thing. Starts but dies in 1 sec. Its not starting in the morning because its cold. So if I leave the hood open during this 100° hot day the engine will warm up and finally start and stay running Fine no jitters. Steps I replaced with all new: 1) Replaced battery, i believe 2yr old walmart battery 10.v sometimes jumped to 12v shorted and maybe destroyed some electronics. 2) Changed fuel pump. Still same problem 3) Changed Mass Air Flow sensor + 4) Changed Air Filter. Still same problem 5) Checked Compression all cyl at 150psi 6) Last thing i want to do is change all little hoses after the MAF on the air intake. Because a little leak can also cause these problems. Another is change my coolant temp sensor. Since it is a cold morning time problem

I also took out the Throtte body and cleaned it thoroughly with a toothbrush and Mass air flow sensor cleaner spray. Note that the coolant lines do connect to the throttle body. Which is supposed to keep the throttle open to warm up the engine. Let me try replacing the Coolant temp switch and the little hoses today. Update when i get back

Ok my problem was a clogged cat. When you try to start the car a couple of times, feel the top of the header it will be hot but feel below the header it will be cold. Fix is take off the cat and soak in DrMechanic degreaser from Walmart, overnight. Then spray with highpressure water. Cause is a bad coil not firing causing excessive carbon. Mines was occasional but never threw a misfire code. Check all sparkplugs and culprit is the most carboned up one.

A car like that is just a waste of time for all involved. I’ve learned it all the hard way. There comes a point where you have to let the car go before it lets go on you. Good information here though if a car were worth saving.

I've tried everything except the oxygen sensor, I've tested the injectors, the fuel pump, the fuses, the chain sensors, the alternator fuse line, besides the oxygen sensor is it possible that it won't start?

Fuel, spark compression. If Any of these are too far out of spec it won't go. Vvt can cause issues with compression if conditions are right, stretched timing chain, worn tensioner, weak oil pump or pressure. 😅 If the cat is plugged it affects things a lot if the engine is weak. A strong engine can blow the rock right out the tail pipe.

sounds like it jumped timing something fierce i would wonder if a chain tensioner is gone, or mb cam gear is gone. and sounds like the biggest cure to the problem is a lot of people getting together to sue or beat up that oil change place lol

Yup that engine is burnt toast! But the fact that it still runs only proves how hard it is to kill Toyotas. @Astral Auto Repairs...Timmy I got me a project that you would be familiar with. 2011 GMC Terrain with that lovely 2.4L ecotrash engine. Ran low on oil so got it cheap cheap, may be doing a rebuild similar to what you did with the Sportage. Any tips/tricks other than prayer?

I've still yet to find a detailed video on how to test fuel pressure on these older Toyota/Lexus vehicles. I almost thought you were going to get into that (damn!). The repair manual says it involves stripping the adapter off another Toyota part number. WTF Toyota?

@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos a big and very complete fuel pressure testing kit will probably have the right T adapters, but I don't have an expensive kit. The repair manual says "purchase a new fuel tube and take out the fuel tube connector from its pipe. Fuel tube part # 23801-20190". Then connect it to an SST (which I think is just a tee in adapter)
