Is it because the teacher warms up the shakuhachi before playing every morning because it's cold, or is it because if you do this every day, the instrument will become a better-sounding instrument?

I was genuinely surprised to see this. He never did it when I was young, but Tōno is a very cold place in wintertime so he might have started to do this while living there.
