De pressurize the fuel system by pulling the fuse and letting run dry, or by other means. I thought I could get by just leaving the fuel cap off. Also, letting car sit cold overnight may help. I lost about a pint of a gas gulch. Luckily none made it past my safety glasses- so consider eye protection and discarding your clothes as gasoline soils dont always launder too easily. I used the blue/violet plastic Lisle to remove the in line. After that, the two rear lines disconnected much more easily. Good luck!

My 2003 Saturn L has that same engine, but the filter is different, just 2 connectors, 1 on each side. They have those pinch connectors. I see you were able to release them by hand. I have used needle-nose pliers on the outside of those connectors, but I will have to try by hand, the next time - seems that would be easier. In my Saturn, there is a Schrader valve on the fuel injector rail, on the engine, and I de-pressurize the fuel lines that way (hold a rag over it and let the fuel bleed into the rag). Aside from avoiding spray, I think that depressurizing the fuel lines can make it easier to release the 1st connector on the fuel filter

Hey, do you recommend pulling the fuel pump fuse, running the car until it stalls, replacing the filter and then replacing the fuse then starting it back up?
@JonnyBarajas10 жыл бұрын
Its not necessary, just depends on preference. I don't mind spilling a little fuel. But from my experience, running the fuel pump with out fuel can damage it...

Thanks

pulling the fuse wont hurt the pump at all. It doesn't allow pump to run and the car just burns whatever fuel is in the lines. Pulling the fuse doesn't hurt fuel pump and is the best way to go with changing filter. Less of a mess too!!!

I know you probably have already changed it but I would recommend spraying some pb blaster or anything of that nature a few hours before to let it settle in and make getting things off so much easier

Hey I have a quick question do you think I have the same problem with my car it would turn off on stops and my rpm would keep going up and down like crazy...won't stay on the 1 it's either in the half or would just turn off
@JonnyBarajas9 жыл бұрын
Bryan Mauricio the fuel filter helps the rpm's alot, but another possible cause can also be the alternator running low amps.
@williamzamora31969 жыл бұрын
I had a similar problem with my 2006 Chevy 2.2 cobalt. I took both battery and alternator, the alternator was bad. I replaced the alternator and my car wouldn't turn off anymore. Also, ignition switch has been a problem for cobalts I believe.

Im confused on the whole fuse situation, anyone advise it? If i skip it to avoid damaging the pump how much fuel will i leak?
@loganator78r8 жыл бұрын
look for fuse box under the hood and find the fuse for fuel pump. Pull it out and start car until it dies from no fuel. This wont hurt fuel pump or anything else.. all it does is shuts fuel pump off and the motor burns the leftover fuel in the fuel lines. Doing this will keep you from pouring fuel all over yourself

Man who thought putting the fuel filters literally behind the gas tank under a bunch of shit AND requiring you to jack up the car was a smart idea... My old ass Toyota has the fuel filter literally in the hood easily accessible with a ratchet.
