Update*
4/11/13 Got heads machined and rebuilt. I found that 4 connecting rods were bent. So I'm adding manley forged rods, fingers oval lowered compression pistons, and some big hp goodies as we speak. I can't wait to get the truck back together!

1 (opt stock), 2 (Tow Tune), and 5 (Max Effort) are ATP tunes.. 3 (Lope/Street) and 4 ( Hot Street ) are my buddies tuning

Yeah I dropped the coin on a set of manley duramax rods. The bottom end should be pretty stout now. Got new pistons, clevite H series bearings, ARP's (head studs, main studs, rocker studs,rod bolts, flexplate bolts). Its getting all the necessary machine work done. Cylinder Bored and Honed .020 over, Align bore and hone, decked, keyways added, as well as getting internally balanced. I'm sure I left something out lol. Things gonna be wicked when I get it all back together!

love watching but mostly listening to this video when ever i get a chance, i also have a 05 dmax but no stacks, i have a 5" turbo back strait pipe. i am currently deployed over seas and missing my truck like crazy so hearing your drive and all that brings me back to home haha. great sounding truck!

I respect the duramax,cummins, and powerstroke. They all have their pros and cons, My vote goes to the duramax just because I'm partial to GM. They all make badass diesels.

Its not smoke, its soot and settles back to the ground. Diesels have less emissions then a honda 4cyl.

I have an '05. The newer you go, the faster. They're pretty quick stock but nothing crazy. For a truck that weighs near 7000 lbs, I was pretty impressed.

Its a variable geometry turbo (VGT) which means the variable vanes can change their angle essentially opening or closing them. Its designed to help spool up and create more boost at lower rpms

As long as you let the tuner know your going to be running a stock trans, I highly recommend it. It blows all other tuners out of the water hands down with much more useable smooth power.

@95ckemper EFI LIVE is completely custom tuning which you can do yourself or have a tuner (recommended) build tunes for the ECM. You will need the V2 if you want to change these things yourself unless you get a pre-programmed ECM.It depends greatly on the supporting mods and the goal of said truck that will determine what kind of tune (ie trans safe tow tune to full on drag/sled pull tune). There are many good tuners out there to choose from.

No need to worry about the mileage since the converter,clutch packs, and steels will be replaced with the suncoast kit. Just make sure its installed by someone who knows what they are doing. The kit will take about anything you can dish out short of a built motor. $2000 sounds like a lot for just a "shift kit",It will at most be a band aid. Im at 230k+ Miles and still going strong.Your gonna have to bite the bullet on a built trans if you want to run any decent amount of power reliably.

Its has to do airflow with the turbo and the downpipe.Look at a factory duramax downpipe next to an aftermarket one and you should get some idea. Every duramax 2004.5 and does it unless the downpipe and/or turbo is upgraded. Once I added a pro-fab down pipe it changed from a screaming sound to a much deeper and throatier roar

I'm told that anything over 90hp over stock is enough to limp it. I limped mine at least a dozen times on a 135 quadzilla tune. Its mainly the 4-5 shift that is the weak point when your running a big tune. I have a Suncoast 5-3 GMax kit with trans go and a 1056 converter. The kit is roughly $1600, I paid a little over $3400 with installation. Pricey but its built to handle 800+hp. Keep the power down unless you can afford to build it because it will fail eventually at that level. No problem

I got the logos from the efi live website and had a local graphics designer cut them in white vinyl. They Are really high quality. Just take a logo of your choice to a graphics place and they should be able to hook you up!

Thanks Bro, All the mods in this video I'm guessing around $6k. I'd have to look at my receipts to know the exact amount. The biggest chunk is the trans, the rest is all in airflow, exhaust,intake,electrical, etc.

My tunes are DSP1 Opt Stock with Opened Turbo Vane Position, DSP2 Tow/Economy,DSP3 Lope/Street, DSP4 Hot Street Smokey Tune, DSP5 Max Effort 500+hp tune.Most tuning was done by my friend from tyreboyz diesel, the max effort tune is from IdahoRob at ATP. I'm gonna work on new tuning this spring.

I like it dirty lol The lope tune is just a small fuel tweak at idle, there are plenty other things thats worse for the injectors than that. I hardly use it anyways, my injectors are perfectly fine still

That completely depends on what your looking to spend. Personally I would get a lift pump (Airdog/Fass) and ditch the edge for EFI LIVE. Then if you really want to have some fun upgrade your trans. The list can go on and on

Yeah if you want purchase individual tunes online and/or build your own tunes. You can get an autocal unit with tunes on it already if you dont have a computer to use the flashscan v2

depends on the use. cummins are bulletproof and very powerful, duramaxes are nice too, the efi life tune is easy to install and adds lots of hp. but the chevy doesnt have a solid front axel so not the best plow trucks, and the powerstrokes ( i have 2) have pretty good engines also, 6.4 is easy to get hp out of on just a tune, 7.3s are very reliable and good on milage. i love my 2000 7.3. but at the end of the day they all get the job done

2001 cummins manual 5 speed, 150 hp injectors, quadzilla adrenaline 4k module, Ram turbo orfice, air dog 165, 5 inch turboback exhaust going into two 5 inch aussie stacks, afe dry flow intake water mist water methanol injection kit.pusher intake

The IHI turbo on the lb7 isn't nearly as loud as the later year trucks with the vgt turbos but your truck will be loud none the less

Normal idle is with vanes closed, lb7 idle is when the vanes are opened

Yeah my egt gauge has been real pissy lately, I think its finally crapped out though. I dont trust it anymore so I might replace it with an autometer. I'd contact glowshift first, their customer service has been good to me.

Its just a tweak in throttle based injection quantity. Basically you increase fuel at idle IIRC don't quote me on that though lol

It's kind of hit or miss, electrical tape wrapped around it will snug it up for a perfect fit! My pyro gauge just stopped working about a week ago

In the vid its all stock cp3 and injectors with a lift pump. Now im uprgrading to 60% overs for this coming year. If you want to save some money on the stack pm me for a link.. Its not going to sound the same since you've got an lb7 but you can definately achieve similar performance with good tuning and trans work.

Haha I have a bunch of different tunes I play with but some are from ATP (IdahoRob) and a couple from my buddies diesel shop. PPE is probably the best canned tuner for a duramax, but it wont even touch what efi can do

What year is your truck and what power level are you running? I limped mine with my old quadzilla a few times. The only way to get rid of limping is to either lower the power level or build the trans. Its just going to slip easier and easier till its fried and then its big money

i would start by going to bankspower.com and get there big hoss package then maybe an upgraded cp3 pump or dual pumps and bigger injectors probably a bigger turbo too

What the hell is with you cummins guys? I never once downed on cummins, I would drive a cummins any day. Plus I'm was a memeber on the cumminsforum. I have this duramax is because I've always liked GM and the money was right.I was gonna buy a common rail before I found this truck. I just helped put together a nasty 12v with a maxed 12mm pump,schwitzer 63 over an BW S480,injectors, springs, fluidampr, built trans. I'm not trying to make you or anyone else love/hate the duramax
