We're stuck at home under a shelter in place ordinance, so we went ahead and did a few more upgrades to our 6.0 Super Duty. We are hoping to get a few more years out of this thing before we upgrade, so I wanted to make sure the wife is comfy since this is also her daily driver. Camera may not be popping on from the speaker because the speaker works off the proximity sensor on the bumper. So if you back up close to something your camera will probably pop on.

That was my thought as well. That way I can hook everything up by myself without getting out to double check. Te main thing she wanted was the Bluetooth, but that will be a nice luxury item and it was pretty cheap on Amazon. The radio seems to give us a lot nicer sound on the stock speakers too, so we're excited. Now if I could only hit a lotto so I could get the body work and interior redone, we'd be in heaven! Would also like to take it back to stock height and wheels/tires. Previous owner had the lift on, but I don't want to spend the $$ going back to stock yet.

So we just did this to our 2012 F250 Super Duty. We're about to do the camera install because the receiver we bought wouldn't work with the factory Ford backup camera. Go figure. We bought everything from Best Buy and were going to have them install but their guys were on furlough, so we just figured it out ourselves. They told us the wiring harness we needed but we also bought this Maestro steering wheel control interface for our model (that they sold also). Here's a link to the Maestro brand that we bought (at the bottom). This isn't the one for our model, but you should be able to search for your model and get what you need to retain your steering wheel controls. It was very easy and we just tucked it behind the receiver with all the other wires. It's not too big. You do have to hook it up to a computer to program it to your specific model. That's where you can tell it that you want this button to do this or that, or just keep it the way it's always been. Kind of neat to be able to customize the buttons. You can either use the website to program the module or download their software onto your computer to program it (which I had to do because my computer would not go to their website or something - can't remember). We tried to buy an adapter to just use our current camera plug from the F250 (called a fakra) into the RCA on the back of the receiver with no luck. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WGW9C4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 So now I guess we'll just have to go with the license plate backup camera. Thank you for the vid. I will be doing this on my sons 06 and I wanted to see what it was like behind the dash surround. However, not a fan of you running the backup camera wires running through the spare tire jack handle hole in the bumper. Could have just as easily ran it and protected it better having it behind the license plate. Your electrical tape glob and cutting and twisting of the taillight wiring had me cringe. Only a matter of time for those connections to fail. The reverse camera would work like it should if you tied it into the actual reverse light positive wire and not in the proximity speaker. The way you have it wired now, the backup camera would come on automatically only when the proximity speaker is audible.

Did you try swapping the wires on the reverse light trigger wire? And I would put the mic on the plastic trim for the a-pillar not on the visor. I did the same head unit and install in my old 6.0. Its a very nice upgrade.

I went in and tightened up my connection and it started coming on when I get it in reverse now. I might move the mic over as well--I was worried about it not picking up from over there, but it seems to be plenty loud so that is a better spot. Thanks!!

No, it was actually pretty easy! I think I could have probably hooked up to the reverse wire at the back of the radio instead of splicing in to the taillight, but you’re right there anyway doing the license plate frame so you don’t really save much. Good luck!!!

Your pedal adjustment switch button on your truck. Have you had any problems with that? Mine don't work at all. No noise. No movement. Nothing!! Fuse check out good. 🤷‍♂️

I hooked my camera into the backup lights and the camera comes on automatically. My F150 harness let me still use the steering wheel controls. Sorry I can't help with your situation.

That's ok. I tightened up that purple wire and it comes on when I hit reverse now. I'm not too worried about the steering wheel controls since it is mainly just volume and we only really listen to 1-2 stations lol

Also, all that time and money and the head unit is installed with black electrical tape? Butt-end connectors are iffy, tape is junk…. Solder your wires and finish with shrink tube for a more pro install, just say’n….🇺🇸
