Couple points, it needs to be TDC on the compression stroke. Buckets should obviously not be on the exhaust side. And lastly, i always just use a mic so no need to really read the numbers on the shim pucks. Use feeler gauge, find out how off it is, then just measure the shim that was in there with mic, fldo quick math to figure out what size needs to be in there. Then grab it out of the kit, mic it first to get very accurate actual size, drop it all back together and then check with feelers again. Repeat if necessary. Also, put the exact buckets back where they came from because one may be more worn (thinner) than the other which will make everything you just measured and changed wrong when you put it back together and recheck.

The exhaust buckets are not supposed to be on there. Only the intake valves should have buckets on them. It does not come factory that way. At TDC all valves should be closed. The buckets on the exhaust valves are what are making the valves stay open.

Darth Vaper thank you! We aren't sure who had this apart before but they obviously put extra parts back in it lol

That’s why schematics are key lol the buckets don’t go on the exhaust valves.

I believe that they do

Jason Gardner we actually found out that is how it is supposed to be! Valve lash is set without buckets on the exhaust, thanks for the comment!

A quarter past tight .... that's why so many people's used bikes and atvs engine bolts are stripped out because people listen to you when you tell them to do that when tightening extremely important bolts . I'm not saying the whole video is bad but please anyone watching this for actual information READ YOUR MANUAL for CORRECT torque specs PLEASE !! And as for the timing chain tensioner if yours isn't in need of replacement when you spin the flathead screw the whole way out it will lock in place so you don't have to hold the screwdriver fyi

What was the cause that made you take a look at the valves? Bad performance? Please be specific if you can.
@TheFeesher5 жыл бұрын
It was just part of the rebuild, the quad had a jug replaced and we were lashing the valves to go back together
@MrColefing6 жыл бұрын
Did you ever figure the issue out?
@TheFeesher6 жыл бұрын
The issue is that the valves that are hung open do not receive buckets 👍🏻

the exhaust side shouldn't have buckets at all is the problem.

can the valve buckets be refinished
@TheFeesher7 жыл бұрын
Emial Miller if yours are damaged I would just buy new ones. It probably costs less than refinishing if they are damaged.

not damaged bad just some surface marks

The buckets aren't wrong, that's not possible, you need to replace the valves.

Check valve clearance. Write it down. Then measure every old shim. Do a little math against the spec clearance you need and that tells you what size shim u need without going, hmm you think a little bigger or smaller than so so.
