The 3.9L V8 was actually a Jaguar AJ-V8 that was modified by Ford/Lincoln. In fact, quite a bit of the LS's components, design and engineering came from Jaguar and was also shared with the Jaguar S-Type, thanks to Ford's ownership of Jaguar at that time. Both the Lincoln LS and its sister the Jaguar S-Type was a joint-effort between Ford and Jaguar, and engineers from both companies came together to develop these cars. The Jaguar V8 was a stellar motor, a very modern design which was very durable and also had a great exhaust note, it was actually one of the best things about the LS (and this was confirmed by most of the reviews at that time), especially in the 2003 and up models which had the revised & improved version which put out around 280 hp. Although the LS did have some reliability issues it was primarily the early 2000 and 2001 model years that were affected. By the time the refreshed & improved 2003 model year came out most of the reliability issues were ironed out and resolved. One of the big reliability problems for the early model years had to do with the transmission, as they were prone to premature failure. If you are considering a purchase of the LS the best advice would be to stick with the 2003-2006 model years. Their were over 500 specific improvements made to them in the 2003+ model years, particularly the interior quality and design was a big improvement. And these cars have a very advanced suspension design, fully-independent front and rear double-wishbone suspension layout which is what gives the car its above-average ride & handling characteristics.

Mario L I was thinking the same thing. The 3.9 V8 in these aren’t known for reliability.
@crazyjkz5 жыл бұрын
@@nickys1008 Actually the 3.9L V8 is a Ford-modified Jaguar AJ-V8, and it's a very modern design that was known for high reliability and durability. Jaguar still uses the basic design of this V8 to this day in it's 3rd generation, and Aston Martin also still uses a special hand-built 4.7L version of it. You might be thinking of the 5-speed automatic transmissions in these cars, they did have some reliability issues, particularly the earlier model years. But the 3.9L V8 was solid and with a great exhaust note, actually one of the best parts of the entire car.

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS V8 with 183k. It's been a pretty good car, but it's mainly a cruiser. City mpg can sometimes be around 13-15 which sucks, but it is a V8. I've managed about 22-24 mpg highway. Overall a good car is you maintain it. If you dont change your transmission fluid regularly it's obviously going to have problems.

Kyle, for a guy who apparently has family that owns a dealership you do a nice job with the cars you present. I also like these cars here as they have the key hole that is on the dash. That is so much nicer and like cars use to be----Cadillac Seville of the early 2000s had that feature also. Lincoln LS is a nice RWD auto---but buy a V8! Much nicer power and the torque is wonderful on V8s.

It all depends on how you drive for gas mileage. I have a 2001 3.9 and i average 31mpg highway, 28 with a/c. But i drive the speed limit and dont get to the floor with it. In town about 14mpg. But since I drive both regularly i get 21mpg. This is both hitting reset to check mileage by car, and doing old skool "miles to gallons used" math. I also run only 91 octane. Hope this helps anyone.
