Owned two. The V-8's were known for coolant leaks when their plastic parts deteriorated. The thermostat housing and the over flow tank. As did the 2000-2003 plastic timing chain tensioners after 125K or sooner if they didn't use synthetic. So avoid one that has overheated or rattles at start up. The V-6's had fewer problems. Transmission solenoids also went. And coils went, window regulators broke. Front sway bar bushings went. BUT, the body is half aluminum and I haven't seen a rusty one ever, even after 20 years up north. The body is very solid, designed with input from Volvo. I bought a low mileage 2002 V6 auto for a niece and it's needed some suspension work and the window regulators. But I sleep better knowing she's in a solid car. I agree with Scotty, they make good beaters if you find one cheap.
@propertysergeant
@propertysergeant Жыл бұрын
The LS was made when Ford owned Jaguar. The motor is an AJ designated Jaguar engine. It's actually an entry-level Jaguar with a Lincoln body. Parts are cheap from Ford or eBay. You are correct in some of the parts that need changing. Suspension, coils, radiator overflow. I bought an 05 in 09 with 65,000 miles, and I now have 350, ooo miles on it. But the rockers are rusted out, and the rear passenger lower control arm is no longer attached to the underneath. She is retired and under a cover. It will be a parts car. I'm buying another one. Good ones aren't cheap.

VRotate Yes. I do rideshare on the side and also have a transportation company. It was the most logical decision. This car is awesome. My only complaints are: A humming noise that comes from the transfer case at around 25 - 35 mph (doing some research I found that it’s quite common), and random rattling noises from all the plastic trim. I got the car with 80k miles, one owner (lady on her 80’s). Body has some scratches and I had to replace both bumpers (she would bump onto things a lot). Mechanical wise, it’s perfect. My next one will be a 4Runner TRD without a doubt.

I own a 2002 Lincoln LS with the V-8. Only 80k miles on it. Just watch the premium gas you use. Mine is sensitive to the ethanol. It will throw a check engine light which usually ends up being a coil being replaced. The water leak in the car is caused from two channels going down the two front pillars from the roof. Designed to drain the water from around the sunroof. Quick easy fix. Take some string trimmer line, at least .075 diameter or a little bigger. Cut about a 6 ft section. Run it down the two holes and clean em out..

I had a 2005 with every option. This isn't the same "Ford v8" you find in other cars. It's a 3.9 liter (technically 3955 cc) which is almost identical to the Jaguar S type 4.0 V8, and it was also used in the Ford Thunderbird of that era. Back seat does NOT actually have a lot of legroom, but is adequate. The trunk is decent, but nothing like a "big lincoln". Reliability is average, ignition coils tend to go rather quick. MPG in the city (I mean stop and go NYC traffic) is horrible, probably around 10 mpg with AC on. *BUT*, with AC off, and cruise at 58 mph, I have hit 30.1. Overall, one of the best cars I've owned. The handling and ride comfort is impeccable.

This was my first car. 04 v8. Money pit like no other. This car was made as collaboration with Jaguar. It has jaguar parts all over the car. The hose in the a pillar would always leak and I would have a puddle right below the driver seat. My fuel gage stopped working. When the car has no issues its a great car. But as my first car I had to get rid of it because the repairs were too expensive.

News flash, that V8 is not a Ford motor. It's a coil eating Jaguar 3.9 V8 which was also used in the 2002-2005 Thunderbird. Also these LS's are known for all kinds of electrical gremlins (again courtesy of Jaguar) so I personally wouldn't chance owning one. $500 for a cheap, beat up example that runs and drives? Sure, why the hell not? Drive the wheels off of it (or until the electrical gremlins take over and brick your car, whichever comed first)

Ok I have one of these. I love it! A couple things to know.. you're not gonna find one for $500😂.. for a decent one it'll cost $3,000 - $5,000 also they're kinda hard to find. There's a v6 and a v8 option. The v8 has a jaguar engine😬. with only about 30hp less then the v8, i reccomend going for the v6, which has a Ford engine. the same one as the Ford Taurus has, with about 70hp added. those cars are known for going over 3000k miles! If you find a LS check for coolant leaks. they're notorious for having them.

I just scored the deal of a lifetime Scotty. I bought a 1991 Lincoln Town car for $300.00. Here's the history. Car was bought by an elderly couple in Florida. They kept a log of all maintenance done on the car. They sold it to the man I bought it off of and he bought it down there, drove it up here to Rhode Island. He garaged it and only used it when he came up here in the summers. So, the car has never seen snow or salt, both of which we have up here in New England. Car has 125,000 miles on it and it was even inspected when I bought it. Don't get me wrong, it needs a couple of things but, all just minor. I bought the passenger side mirror, has a crack, small things like that. You just can't get the ride of these older cars, sunroof, all the bells and whistles from the day. I couldn't be happier!!!!! A little side note. I came out of the store about 5 years ago and next to me was this beautiful town car. I have owned about 7 of them through the years. I left a note on the car and I said, if you ever want to sell this car, call me. I don't normally do this but, car was pristine. Go figure, he called me and almost gave it to me.

Lincoln was chasing after BMW with these, and I personally think they succeeded. I LOVE my LS, gotta get a Timing job done, started making a lot of noise, but I'm gonna do it. Only got 150k miles, and where I'm at I could get 2500 out of it how it is. So I'm gonna spend the $700-1200 to do that Timing job.

My mom had an 05' 2.5 for about 11 years now, and its been giving us a.. well.. little trouble. but not too often weave spent maybe a few thousand dollars in repairs, mostly with all the plastic components, this car uses a lot of plastic!!! if you want something 100% reliable that wont have a cracked plastic part and you hate giving your own car maintenance this is not the car for you (esp the automatic models) if you want a fun reliable grocery getter with cozy suspection and some pony's under the hood and you don't wind working on your own car every so often (not very often and also unpredictably inconstant frames of time, and may very person to person) then go for it, Its so worth it. My mom beat the living hell out of the thing lintel about a year ago when she just stopped driving it because of a transmission problem. Its been a great car that I've been growing up with all my life and I'm really sad to probably say goodbye to it soon.. My opinions on it are very mixed. but If you want fun maintenance stories like my dad likes to tell then.. its the car for you? I guess..

That's a nice running car tho with all the miles it has. Up north that car would bring 5k all day if you fix the AC and the seat and windshield. The speed sensor is easy to change on those and the AC leak is usually the accumulator on those and the Town Car which is a 35 dollar part and it just bolts on under the hood. That's where all the condensation collects and they rust on the bottom and they leak.
