Notes: On some vehicles that have unequal lengths driveshafts/axles they may have a carrier bearing on the passenger side driveshaft/axle that can also mimic wheel bearing noises since that is a bearing in itself as well. This vehicle does not have a carrier bearing on the passenger's side driveshaft/axle, but needs to be checked on vehicles that are equipped with it. If you have a vehicle that is AWD (All Wheel Drive) or 4WD (Four Wheel Drive) there will be extra things that will need to be checked for noise such as the driveshaft equipped with a center support hanger bearing, front differential/transfer case, rear differential, etc. Any system that is incorporated within the drivetrain will need to be checked for possible noise as all of these can make/mimic the same noises as regular wheel bearing noises. Thank you for providing detailed troubleshooting! From your experience, does the action of placing a car in reverse before coming to a complete stop OR switching from reverse to Drive damage anything while the car is still slightly rolling or is detrimental? Maybe the timing chain gets too streched or damaged? I have Corolla 2004, automatic transmission. I have a tendency to shift while the car is still rolling at the end.

Thanks. The vehicle's wheels should be completely stopped and no longer in motion when shifting from reverse to drive or from drive to reverse. The same goes when the transmission needs to go into park. If the vehicle is still in motion then it's possible to damage the transmission. This is because the components such as the input shaft, gears and drums, etc. are rotating in a different direction than what the vehicle was designed to go in. Damage over time is still possible when doing that so it's best to wait until the wheels have completely stopped. I have seen some people throw the vehicle into park while it is still moving and end up breaking the parking pawl and creating a big hole and crack in the transmission case.

hi, i have 2012 Toyota Matrix with 280km. live in Kitchener ON i have problem with cold start rattle and its getting worse. no engine light. car drives good. can you fix it ?

I can, but I will have to diagnose and look into it first. I don't drive that far for mobile business, but you can always drop off your vehicle with me to have it worked on. You can send me an email through my KZbin channel. My email is available under Channel Details -> View email address. Typically, the intake VVT actuator makes that noise in a majority of cases. As long as the timing chain is not worn out or damaged. Ideally, I would recommend both intake and exhaust VVT actuators and the plastic timing chain guide on top and an oil and filter change in the end.

Drivers side had a ton of buildup on the strut from something being wet, did the strut fail?

That is just from rust proofing spray and/or grease. These struts have already been replaced.
