Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Much appreciated. I would say that it would be helpful to have a little more light on the subject and to show close ups of the connection springs and the pad adjuster. Remember, most people who came to watch this video haven't a clue as to how these brakes are assembled. Just like myself. Thanks again for taking the time.

YES VERY GOOD.... I would have cleaned off the back plate before installing new shoes, and applied some synthetic brake grease to backplate so that shoe movement would not wear on back plate. Other than that a really good explanation!! THANK YOU!

Great explanation for the rear brake job. Always nice to have a refresher. Tighten a lug nut or 2 before adjusting star wheel helped make sure drum was seated. Grease the bumps on backing plate too.

Clean the backing plate with brake clean spray before you put the new brake shoes on. Lube the six flats where the shoes contact the backing plate with brake grease. Star-wheel should be disassembled, cleaned and lubed with brake grease on both ends.

Awesome thanks! I might pull the wheel bearing assembly which easily comes off and temporarily re-bolt the backing plate with some spare nuts and bolts to firmly hold it in place just to give me a little more wiggle room since it’s my first time. I recently replaced a wheel bearing assembly and thought pulling it off could make it easier. 😀👍🏼

Good tutorial. I would have used brake cleaner before working on the parts; also it is recommended to replace the hardware with brake shoes replacements by manual, the little horseshoe clip goes out easier if you do it first thing before taking the brake shoes out. Thanks for the video.

I changed my drum brakes and everything visually looked fine. When I started driving I heard a slight clicking noise coming from the brakes at first. The next day I heard them again but just on the passenger side after a short drive. Could this just be from the self adjuster?
@DantheFixitMan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mitchell, Yes, it’s possible that it is the self adjuster, or a spring or the shoes may not have been seated all the way on the backing plate mount. If you take the drum off again, you should be able to figure it out. Sometimes the metal adjuster doesn’t want to seat fully in the notch of the brake shoes as well. Best of luck to you. Let us know if you get it figured out. Take care, -Dan the Fix it Man

I have a 2007 corolla, just changed the brake pads in the back and put the tire back on, but when i now press the brakes its very loose and feels like its not applying brakes and also makes a noise from break pedal. Could it be the adjuster that i missed adjusting in the end? Because i left the adjuster all the way closed to get the roter on easily. Please advise.

thx for the video... I change mine but there was a noise I don't know why..any help ...only when I brake..thx for your kindness... God bless
@DantheFixitMan8 жыл бұрын
You might have got something wrong with the springs, and/or adjustment. I would suggest lifting the rear of the vehicle and spinning the wheels manually (with the parking brake off) to isolate the noise, and then take the drum off to have a closer look. Hope you can get it figured out. Good luck! Thanks, Dan the Fix it Man

You need to know if this Corolla was made in the US or made in Japan to order brake pads. The brakes are different on them. VIN number starting with a 1,2 or 3 is US made. VIN number starting with a J was made in Japan.

Brian All 2015 and up Toyota Corolla have disc brakes. Just check them out. You will be surprise how Toyota is trying save money now. But Drum brakes and disc brakes is a bad and not a safe balance for braking
@jasonlewis4606 жыл бұрын
Brian All automobile companies are in the market for saving money. Toyota is notorious about saving money this is why the Toyota Corolla has like 4 version. Which is just sad to the consumer. Speaking about Shoes Vs Disc Pads. Disc brakes are by more efficient to work on. This has been proven, Many DIY enthusiast would prefer to work on Disc brakes instead. The stopping distance has been also proven but for regular drivers they won't even feel the difference. Toyota Corolla drivers are not braking at 100 + mph
