From early in 2002 until the loss to Texas in January 2006 this team won 45 out of 46 games...including 34 in a row! The only loss in that stretch was in triple overtime to Cal in 2003. And I don't care if Bush's parents were living in Buckingham palace......that was an unbelievable run.

So the combination of starting out with the most ranked teams in preseason (based on nothing), playing the unquestioned worst OOC schedules, and pussing out by playing 8 conference games means the SEC will always have the most ranked teams going into conference play by default. Then the SEC can claim they play all these "ranked" teams. This isn't rocket science. It's simple calculations done by the SEC brass to ensure the best outcome for their conference at the expense of everyone else.

I'm from Arkansas and wanted Arkansas to win that game. It hurt when they didn't but Pete Carroll is not a punk. He is a great coach that deserves a LOT of respect. Some say he runs the score up- and it may look like it, but I feel in this game he did not. The hogs just couldn't play with any usc strings, and they were a highly effective team. If i were on sc side, and I was a 3rd stringer, and I had an oppertunity to score a td in front of my home, I wouldn't trip or not score.

Yeah that's also how they won the first 4/7 NC. PC squads were way better than those UF squads and LSU teams that won the NC. The lack of playoff and SEC/BCS bias are the biggest reasons the SEC won 7 in a row. USC were also better than OSU. The biggest reason SC never made it after 06 and beyond was losing at the wrong time. They playoffs were way overdue when Oklahoma got smashed by SC or even whem OU got in after they lost their conference ship.

Alabama is playing USC in 2016 at Jerry World in Dallas. I wish we could have done a home and home series. I've always wanted to see my Tide take on the Trojans. Maybe by then the NCAA sanctions will have worn off. Alabama will be loaded for bear the way we recruit. Hopefully USC will be back to normal by then. You'll haven't been the USC of old the past few years save for 2011.

See, the Big 12 has experienced the last two years what the Pac 10 went through on a yearly basis. People don't understand the 9-game IC schedule gives your conference extra losses and lower rankings by default. It's why the SEC never faced USC. It's why Ok State was left out of the NC in favor of Alabama. It's why 6 teams ranked in preseason ended up being 3. We ACTUALLY beat each other up. We don't just say we do and instead schedule patsies, hoping being in the SEC is enough.

One thing people forget about in the Pac-10 is that every team plays each other. Oregon plays USC every year, meanwhile LSU can skip Florida AND Georgia in the SAME year. There's no inflated records in the Pac-10. Cal went 6-6 and owned their bowl game. I'm sure Vandy can go 8-4 and be murdered in bowl season. And the SEC says they "beat each other up." No, the only conference that can say that is the Pac-10 (9 conference games).

Not the same boat. Pac still plays 9 games with 12 teams and the toughest OOC schedules. You forget that the Pac now has a championship game that does the exact same thing as the SEC championship, so can't pull that card. The SEC CCG is just another way to ensure an SEC team in the BCS championship. If both teams have one loss or less, winner goes. They know they'll have the highest ranked teams (as we've discussed) and an extra game against that opponent is just icing on the BCS cake.

OOC games are good, and sometimes the SEC does play other decent teams like Oregon, Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan, Texas, and the OOC rival games like Clemson and Florida State. Even with their conf sched, 12/14 teams played 1 or more BCS teams. And the Pac 12 plays more than 1 cupcake every year. Ex, 8 out of the 12 teams played 2 or more Non-BCS teams last year, and its the same way this year. The head-start can fade by the midseason. Remember big 12 went from 6 preseason to 3.

But the SEC plays 8 conference games. So that one game against a BCS opponent means they've matched the Big 12 and Pac 12's conference schedule. The equivalent would be the Pac 12's whole OOC schedule being an FCS team and two Sun Belt teams. The Pac 12 plays 1-2 BCS teams, 1-2 quality non-AQ (MWC, WAC), and possibly an FCS on average. By comparison, 12 out of 14 SEC teams played 3-4 non-BCS teams in 2012. And the head-start can't fade. Not when the conferences are trading losses.

I live in Arkansas, and back then I was beyond upset when USC beat (more like murdered) UA. Seeing the replay of this again, and looking at the stats I've gotta give USC a LOT of respect for their continuous victories and their explosive offense and defense. I'm not sure whether USC was that good or ar was that bad, or maybe both, but to get 4 touchdowns in 8 plays is just plain impressive and deserves respect no matter who you are! I'm from Arkansas, and I was sick about this game when it happened. But looking back, you have to realize that USC was NOT running up the score-they were just that good. It's not running up the score if your second and third string players dominate a weaker team. They can't stop playing; that's insulting to the other team and fans, and they can't do nothing-penalties. They had to play. Frankly it is an impressive game that no amount of sanctions will ever wipe the egg off the face of Arkansas.

The Washington Huskies shared the National title with Miami in 1991. Had Dennis Dixon not tore his ACL in 07 Oregon wouldve been in the National title game instead of LSU. Oregon was 8-1 and ranked 2nd in the country when Dixon got hurt. Also, Oregon should've been in the title game in 01 when they were number 2 in the AP and coaches poll but the BCS took Oklahoma. Pac-10 bowl record in 08, 5-0, the only undefeated conference.

Arkansas was actually the SEC runner up in 2006, the year that USC beat them 50-14, only losing one conference game before the SEC championship game, also ranked #5 at one point at 10-1. I'd hardly call Arkansas of 2006 a garbage team, despite their slide at the end against good teams, and narrowly losing to a Florida that took Ohio State to the woodshed, and narrowly losing to a good Wisconsin team who semi-convincingly beat a good Penn State that took Michigan and Ohio State to the wire.

I go to games, but last time I was at UA, I wore my gators jersey. I got a lot of stares. But I'm not gonna support a team that does't improve despite much of the state money going to the football program. I go for UCA bears (look em up) Florida Gators, Texas Longhorns, USF Bulls, and USC is starting to grow on me. Any team that can do what USC has over the years deserves respect, and I tip my hat to them. I want to see a USC-Texas matchup again, and I want to see a USC-Florida matchup.

Do you even pay attention? Arkansas was 10-4 the NEXT season.2006! Gus Malzahn was hired as OC for Arkansas that year. After USC once again trounced them at Fayetteville in the opener that Robert Johnson started, freshman qb Mitch Mustain led Arkansas to eight straight wins, including a big upset at Auburn, before Houston Nutt pulled a power play and benched him for Casey Dick in the South Carolina game. A game where Nutt resorted to the wildhog because Dick was so awful and he had to have power-trip control over Gus Malzahn, with whom he had a severe egotistical clash. They barely held on to win that game, which was a game where McFadden ran wild. Nutt called Malzahn "high school" because AD Frank Broyles wanted him as OC. He also hated Mustain's mother. They finished the season with three straight losses in the McFadden/Jones/Hillis wildcat trip. This included an SEC championship loss to Florida (a game they led and should have won) and, ironically, to a Bret Bielema led Wisconsin team in the Capital One bowl in which they were favored.

Im a Trojan fan and i admit that the SEC is the toughest conference in the country, but the Pac-10 is the second best, the Pac-10 is consistently underrated, they have some very good teams that have been able to beat SEC teams, the reason the Pac-10 is looked at as weak is because people only look at the shitty teams of the Pac-10 (Stanford, Wahsington etc.) it would be the same if people just looked at the cappy teams of the SEC (kentucky,vanderbilt etc)

Bowl games mean a lot...just not when trying to determine which team deserves to be in said bowl game. Example: who's to say Oregon wouldn't have beaten ND by 50? It's not a fixed system. It's a flawed system that the SEC fixes to put themselves in the best position. The argument isn't that the SEC doesn't belong there...it's that nobody else is given the chance. OOC games are the ONLY way during a season to prove your conference is good. If a team doesn't partake, we're left with speculation

I'll go there all day. Everything you just said is based on a little number next to a team's name. A number that is determined not by the quality of a team, but by how much money they can make and their popularity. If your conference starts the season, before ANY game is played, with 7 or 8 ranked teams, you're going to end the season with that many ranked teams. And you're going to play more during the season. If your conference doesn't "prove it" during the OOC season, it doesn't mean shit.

Think of this: No official poll is allowed to come out until the 3rd or 4th week. They are only allowed to judge on what you've done so far. 1-2 vs three potentially ranked teams OOC is slightly better than 3-0 vs garbage, because you proved better than a good team. That would force ALL teams to want to schedule awesome OOC games. As a fan, there would be 20-30 GREAT match-ups per week, as opposed to 2 or 3. When the dust had settled, we'd know the contenders and pretenders. It's CFB heaven!

Rankings aren't irrelevant. They're just skewed so badly they can't be taken as the be-all-end-all of a team's quality. A Pac 12 team will normally play 1-2 decent teams and one cupcake OOC then play 9 conference games. SEC will play 3 to 4 cupcakes OOC. Hypothetically, the SEC could have fourteen 4-0 teams who have played nobody..and the Pac can only have six 4-0 teams plus six 3-1 teams, best-case. Give the SEC a head-start in the rankings preseason, no way anybody catches them.

The texas-usc game was one of the best I've ever seen, even though I hated both teams who played. I couldn't tell who would win between USC and Florida- I would pull for Florida because they're SEC, and I've always been a fan of them. I would also like to see a USC-UofA game again when Arkansas gets more talent. But when it comes to that, I want the students to come to UCA and UALR. I'm sick of Arkansas having it's head up it's ass about the hogs- support other local colleges!

You CAN say the same for the Pac 12 vs any conference. Glad we're on the same page with this now. And with the "conference gauntlet" thing, SEC fans point to their teams and say they beat each other up so bad that they don't need quality OOC games. Well, one loss still equals one loss and the Pac guarantees itself 6 more than the SEC. Those good SEC teams do get beaten out of contention...but the one doing the beating (sometimes two) are elevated to the championship by default. It's wrong.

No, I'm saying the only way to justify conference and team rankings IS OOC. What I keep hearing is that you think the SEC should be given the title of "best conference" before the season starts, every year. Not the case. To be the best, you need to beat the best. That means you need to go out during the OOC season and make an effort to prove you're the best. Also, the SEC CCG has nothing to do with this argument. 12 SEC teams play 8 games, 2 play 9. 10 Pac 12 teams play 9 games, 2 play 10.

Tennessee will beat UCLA this year, but hell being a Bama fan, I wished UCLA would win. USC is really the only team to beat up on Arkansas and Auburn, which only have 1 sec title combined over the past 20 years. USC has won 7 straight Pac 10 titles. Cal did beat Tennessee at home in 2006 but was embarrassed at Tennessee the year before. It was 35-0 before Tennessee called the dogs off. Nobody else besides USC beats SEC teams. The records would be different playing Bama, UF, GA and LSU regularly
